I wonder what his opinion would be if he was still coaching at Arkansas

Just send Bielema a dozen donuts and he'll be quiet for a while.

That was the only quote from the interview, which still took 4hrs to conduct, between the buffet refills.

"I was told that [the SEC coaches] voted unanimously to stay at eight"

UNANIMOUSLY?

Play mores SEC games simply to ensure more SEC cannibalism to give the weaker conference better comparison resume. Join a strong conference like the SEC then you get to vote!

"The last time Illinois won a national championship in any sport was in 2003 when the men's tennis team won the NCAA title. In men's basketball, their last claimed national championship was in 1915, but this was before the NCAA Tournament era."

Why would any SEC coach want to go to 9? Every team but Texas and Missouri has a top 30 SOS.

Of course he does. When your conference games include Rutgers, Purdue, Maryland, Northwestern, Indiana, Mich St, Iowa, Minnesota, you don't mind playing nine. The CFP proved last year that total wins is all that matters. The SEC would be STUPID to go to 9 games. I heard a big ACC homer talking on the radio the other day that wins are wins and conferences are all equal. The co host said, you don't really believe that do you? He said, yes I do. The only downside to staying at 8 is we are gonna lose some great traditional games. UT-Florida, UGA-UT, Bama -LSU, Ms St.-Bama, Auburn- LSU are all history as every year games going forward.
