The hurricane rates ones are just hurricane fabric. They look exactly the same. Wish I had it because I have to leave mine up for hurricanes. Friends with rated ones move everything into their patio and close their screen. Storm over, open it back up.

we have one and i would do it again 100 out of 100 times.
had the same concerns about mosquitos but live outside and wanted it to be as open as possible. when the mosquitos come out we just put it down. we close it at night then open in the morning. you press a button and it's open. easy. they also have them connected to wifi so you can set a schedule if you want or open/close remotely.
agreed on easier to blow out and keep clean.
There are several different screen options and colors as well, ranging from screen porch style that just keep bugs out the more sun protection style, even hurricane rated.
since we got ours i know a lot of people that have gone with retractable screens and have yet to hear any complaints.
of course, it all depends on your configuration but i would recommend retractable if it's an option.
eta: if sun or glare is an issue, you can put it down partially to block the sun but leave the bottom open to allow for air flow.

Idk about any of this martial arts stuff but I started heavy bag boxing training recently and love it. I look forward to heavy bag day. And burns up my arms and shoulders. I love it.
Full disclosure: I have no idea what I’m doing.

Are POE cameras cross-compatible with other systems (reolink ->?)
Posted by Randall Savauge on 4/8/26 at 1:51 pm
I have 4 reolink POE cameras installed and a few more in boxes to install. My reolink dvr system is about 6 years old and I have to admit it’s not the most user friendly system. I’d like to upgrade the dvr/cloud storage part of the system, preferably to a different brand. Will my reolink cameras work or do they have to be brand specific?
Also, any recommendations for whole house camera system brands that are fairly simple to use?

Chicken coop questions: waterer and mosquito control
Posted by Randall Savauge on 3/22/26 at 10:56 am
Good morning fellow h&gb baws.
Wanted to see if yall had any recs for a non-automatic watering system. I currently use a 5gal bucket with the tips they peck and get water. Problem is I’m starting to have leaks and run out of water quickly. I don’t have water run to my coop/run yet so it’s a manual filling system by me. Have any better systems I should look at? Will probably switch to two buckets because I’m up to 15 birds and as it heats up, they will go through a lot of water, even without leaks.
Secondly, there seem to be a lot of mosquitoes in my coop when I open it in the morning. Any recs to control that? Either repellant or eradication. I air it out during the day but it’s currently closed up tight at night. Removing some panels today since the cold is over to help with air flow.
Thanks!
