Are POE cameras cross-compatible with other systems (reolink ->?)

I have 4 reolink POE cameras installed and a few more in boxes to install. My reolink dvr system is about 6 years old and I have to admit it’s not the most user friendly system. I’d like to upgrade the dvr/cloud storage part of the system, preferably to a different brand. Will my reolink cameras work or do they have to be brand specific?
Also, any recommendations for whole house camera system brands that are fairly simple to use?

Most Reolink cams are ONVIF complient, so any DVR platform that is also ONVIF compatible will work. ONVIF cams vary from model to model, so you'll need to do a little research to see if they are and if there are any settings you need to change to make them work. I would think the PoE cams probably are. Just make sure whatever DVR you go to is also ONVIF complient.

I think most of them are hikvision that are rebranded if I'm not mistaken and should all work together.

LEASTBAY, Can you cite a source why you say that you "think most of them are hikvision that are rebranded if I'm not mistaken"?

Ask chat gpt to break it down for you. I haven't kept up with it for a while. Hikvision and Dahua dominate the market making many other brands. I think amcrest is Dahua. Reolink could be separate. Most of them work together.

Define compatible. Most PoE cams will share a stream or two or more. Some share voice and audio channels. Modern cameras share detection metadata, face recognition, zone crossing, and most features with any pro grade VMS or NVR and are 100% interoperable. This is called profile M.
Look out for retail brands though. These are VERY stingy with their features. Ubiquiti is probably the absolute worst. Apple-like walled garden. They share nothing with third party equipment. You can technically pull a sub stream but you can’t configure it and it’s a shitty VBR stream that’s no good to run tools on anyway. Same with main, plus you need their NVR to pull either, just like the analog days. Reolink is in a very similar boat allowing streams out that are only lightly configurable and generally don’t meet requirements of third party systems. If you already have reolink, unfortunately, your best bet is to stick with them.
If you don’t mind running a server, there is an entire software ecosystem built around making Reolink suck less with other equipment. Check out go2rtc and scrypted. They can turn Reolink streams into solid interoperable feeds.

Using ONVIF protocols doesn’t help when the encoder isn’t tagging key frames or spacing them how a third party system expects.

When I asked LEAST (apparently an apt name) to cite a source for his statement "I think most of them are hikvision that are rebranded", he told me to ask chat gpt to break it down for me. And then he waffled by saying that he hadn't kept up with it for a while.
Be a man, admit that you don't really know what you're talking about and don't tell people to do your work for you! What a dweeb...

Damn baw. We're talking Chinese security cameras. Don't be such a pussy. Sorry I hurt your feelings.

You surely didn't hurt my feelings. In fact, I feel sorry for you that you still can't admit that you don't know as much as you thought you did. And as for being a pussy, I'm not the one who tried to get someone else to do what you would have done if you were a man, pussy. LOL...

Bizarre behavior. I was trying to get anyone to do anything. Most of these Chinese cameras works on other systems because they are all usually made by the same few companies. I shouldnt have to look up the specifics for anyone. The info is readily available. Not sure what you're so angry about.

You can't even keep your story straight, loser. I asked you to cite a source for a statement that you made and you told me to look it up on chat gpt - I didn't ask for any specifics, moron. I just wanted to to know where you got your information, and now I know - it came out your arse.
If you make a statement, then you need to be able to back it up -not tell me to find the information for you, lazy bum. If you won't back it up with facts, I'll call you out every time. And if the info is so readily available, why don't you cite the source for your statement?

highest integration standard possible.
having said that, i think to get the best use out of these, you'll probably want to spin up a HA server on a PC in your house somewhere.
i thought my reolink camera setup was 'ok' until i plugged it into HA; instantly HA found nothing had the latest firmware and due to a weird artifact of how reolink PoE cameras work when connected to their NVR, i never got any notification or way to do that.
HA literally just said 'this camera is out of date and this camera is out of date and your NVR is woefully out of date' and i was able to update everything right through the HA interface.
the system is VERY powerful; you just need to know how to get the most out of it; you have to go into each camera in the app, for instance, and crank up that 4K and framerate to get the absolute highest crystal clear videos.
terrible documentation; terrible references online to what and how you can manage your setup.
using AI, i was also able to finally get it working 100% local; yes its supposed to but i never took the time to make the 2 or 3 minor tweaks and pull the plug on the router to ensure everything worked as expected.
do you happen to know your NVR model?
i have fallen in love with my reolink system all over again after having HA integrate it.

Tough internet guy - "I do not need to to anything." How to say you're a spoiled mommy's baby without saying it...
Common sense says that when you make a statement, YOU should be able to explain it instead of telling someone else to do your work - unless of course you are on reddit or the OT, neither of which I use.

Lots of shiny buttons. Dahua integrations are basically worthless but going through frigate yields 600ish sensors and endless ability to add more like classify if gate is open or closed or trash is out or what time mail came or where each dog was seen last.
I only tried Dahua integration to activate white illumination only when someone was in my driveway and then change max exposure to 16ms but it couldn’t even do one of those things right. Had to use rest_service instead.
