About to finish War and Peace

Overall a decent book but the middle dragged on forever. The character arc of Pierre was very interesting gripping but everyone else was pretty meh. The side characters were interesting but the book was so long and drawn out that it was hard to keep track and remember them when they were brought up again. I can see why it is a classic though. Definitely going to go for an easier read for my next book.

I would recommend it!
I’m a huge fan of westerns and was on a huge Louis L’Amour kick for a while but his books can go kinda quickly. I wanted to work some classics into the rotation and decided to order W&P.

Anna Karenina is a good one. I read the Pevear & Volokhonsky translation. You can read it next and it will be a quickie after W&P!

I loved the detail he put into the battle scenes. My favorite character was Prince Bolkonsky—to me, Pierre was meh.

I prefer his A Confession and his post conversion works. Quite good for those teetering on the edge of atheism.
Resurrection was Tolstoys best novel and that is without question.

I love War and Peace. The breadth of the story it tells is truly astonishing. Not for the faint of heart, but for those who have the patience it is an experience you really can’t get in any other work of fiction.

Thought about trying to read this book the other day and then came to this board and here was this post on the front page. After reading the reviews i figured i would see if there was a movie. You can actually watch a 6 part BBC production of it on youtube. I already knocked it out, dont feel like i missed too much.

If you like Russian literature, definitely check out the Master and Margarita. One of my all-time favorite books.

I started it once and decided life was too short to read something I didn’t like just so I could say I did.
NOT saying that is what you did. Just me.
