What is the best book to read before I watch "House of the Dragon"?
Fire and Blood is the story they are telling. So if you want spoilers/know the story before you watch, that's the one to read.

Fire & Blood isn’t finished either. Two books.

So is it pointless to read them before watching the Dragon series?

That part is finished. It just hasn't caught up to the timeframe of AGOT.

Part two is never getting released, Fire and Blood is done

I actually really enjoyed book five, a good bit more than book four.
4 & 5 are better if you read the Feast with Dragons version

I expect ASoIaF and Dunk and Egg are done as well.

I really enjoyed Dunk and Egg, probably more than the other books.
