This book is so fricking good it is mind boggling how it is not studied in schools as part of basic curriculum. It is, without doubt, something everyone should read.

How does the first book compare to the other two?
I also think 2 and and 3 are better, but I'll do you one more. I've read 2/3 of the next trilogy in Hobb's literary universe, The Liveship Traders. I think it's even better than the Farseer trilogy. Not only is the liveship idea really cool, Hobb's writing is better across the board.
After enjoying the Farseer trilogy, I didn't know if I wanted to commit to all 16 books. I am so far glad I continued on.

I really enjoyed Liveship Traders as well. I thought the characters were really well done.

Halfway into book one of the Farseer trilogy.
Hopefully not a spoiler but I used to hate onions and someone in the book on the verge of starvation ends up eating a raw onion onion. I guess the description in the page was good enough that the next time I had the opportunity I ate an onion, and I've loved raw onions ever since. That's got to be going on 25-30 years ago and it's literally the only thing I remember about that book.

The Silmarillion - Tolkien
I have it but too much brain power needed to go to sleep. I have read it though.

About 3/4 of the way through Book 4 of the Bound and the Broken by Cahill. It's really, really good. This series has just gotten progressively better over time, adding more and more nuance and twists around who is "good" and who is "bad." I'm excited to see how this series wraps up... in 2028.

Finally cleared out my reading queue and started The Devils. Loving it. Wish there were multiple Joe Abercrombies, so we could get more books more quickly.

Have you read his Shattered Sea Trilogy?

Just finished book 3 of The Faithful and Fallen. What a gut wrenching ending after all the momentum that was built up by the good guys. This series has far exceeded my expectations. Can't wait to start the final book. The stakes are so high those final few battles i could feel my heart beating through my chest reading the last 60 pages or so. Can't say ive experienced that with many other books

I am 50% through Library at Mount Char. I mean this in the best way possible - it is one of the strangest books I have ever read.
I never would've heard of this book if it weren't for this board. I'm about 75% through and I agree completely.
I started the book and had no idea what was going on.
Just as soon as I start thinking I understood the book's direction, I would start a new chapter and be pretty confused all over again. But I haven't really been able to put it down either.

He's not Joe, but have you tried Rob J Hayes? He's a solid Abercrombie lite.
Mark Lawrence can also scratch a similar itch.

I've read Mark Lawrence, but I haven't read Hayes. Thanks for the suggestion!

Just made my brother read it as well. He loved it too. Like I say, I don't think I've ever met a person that didn't like it. The ending is well worth the confusion.

His Ties that bind series, along with the best laid plans followup duo, and it takes a thief books are kinda Abercrombie close.
Though I've liked most everything I've read by him.

I finished all the Dungeon Crawler Carls. Wasn’t sure what to pick up next until I saw this mentioned a few pages back.

Gwynne's books are really good, but it's going to be a VERY different tone/pace from DCC
