Agreed, but hopefully Alleva is investigating this as part of due diligence. He should be checking pulse of Aranda and his ability to work with O as head coach if that is where Alleva is leaning. If Aranda not OK with it, he needs to move to another plan to hold onto Aranda, in my opinion.

I agree with you on Aranda. There are a lot of offensive coordinators out there running the spread successfully. Herman is the hot brand now but doubt we get him. We have a proven genius running our defense. LSU will regret losing him. Believe me. Somebody will go after him this year for HC if he continues with his successes this season. Love O but Aranda is the guy even though he doesn't have experience as HC. Nothing is a slam dunk out there.

O is a great recruiter but imo he's easier to replace than a true defensive genius like Aranda.
if his current numbers hold up (and they almost certainly wont, but it is possible) this would be the second best defense we've had since 2005.

The sad thing is I have no faith in the decision makers. They are all politicians and nobody knows how to kiss an entitled Louisiana good ole boy's arse like O.
This is not a anti-O post. I like him, but the problem is he's not as valuable imo as Aranda and quite frankly, I think Aranda is too damn smart for the clowns making the choice.
I fear they will give in to emotion and back slapping vs stone cold analytics. We've already seen that the decision makers rely on gut feelings and emotion, see Miles fiasco, rather than calculated decisions based on data and evidence.

Does he aspire to be a HC some day or is he in the Bud Foster/Chavis mold?
One needs to look no further than his resume compared to either Foster or Chavis to determine his career aspirations.
Chavis has worked at a grand total of five universities in 37 years. Foster has worked at two in 35 years.
Aranda has worked for ten schools in 21 years.

Unfortunately I agree with you again. Louisiana politics!? Who knows who they will hire. But without Aranda, O (and I love O) could be getting the Miles treatment from the fans about this time next year.

We are averaging over 500 yards a game and over 40 pts a game since O took over.
Against bad defenses.
Arranda is a stud and up and comer, after we frick up this hire I just hope he leaves the SEC.

I think we quadrupled his salary.
Also if you wanted to be the best DC wouldn't you come to LSU too?
IDK he would be an interesting HC. The players all seem to live him, but he also doesn't seem to be a really rah rah kinda motivator guy. Very cerebral. He is super strong as a teacher and Xs and Os guys.

And if he's gone after this year, y'all owe him $4m for one season.
quote:It doesn't matter. It's not all about money when you're trying to get to your goals. Aranda wants to be a HC. He's at a place where he gets great talent and can be very successful. His value will continue to sky rocket here.
No one was going to match that.

quote:Here's some insight into Aranda's contract:
Anyone with insight into Aranda's desires to be a HC?
quote:
Aranda does not have to pay a buyout if he leaves for a head coaching job. He must pay 50 percent of his remaining salary if he leaves for a non-head coaching job in the Southeastern Conference or “a Football Bowl Subdivision football program within a 500 miles radius of LSU,” the contract reads.

He must pay 20 percent of his remaining salary if her were to leave for any other non-head coaching job.
So, I would say that he's not planning on leaving for another defensive coordinator job. He probably has a desire to be a HC.

Aranda's demeanor reminds me of Coach K at Duke. Obviously not a football coach but Coach K is one of the top 5 most successful college BB coaches of all time. I've said since the Miles firing that unless it is Hermann or Jimbo, Aranda is the future at LSU. Maybe it could be a 3-year deal to O and Aranda as HC in waiting. If O wouldn't agree to that I think we should make the HC offer to Aranda now. There might be some turbulence the first few years but it would pay off in the long run. That would be similar to Coach K's history at Duke.
