You'd be less delighted if they got Les. It was a closer deal than anyone on this board (from either side) would be willing to admit.

But it didn't. And that's all that matters. Les Miles will recruit and coach circles around this guy. Book it.

I don't like it. I can't see Arky being a smash-mouth football team

What are you 12? Arkansas won the West twice under Houston Nutt with an elite run game that killed clock and slowed down much more talented teams. I think this is not a bad hire at all for a program of Arkansas' caliber.

I do think Gundy or Briles would have been better though.

There was no hire that was going to outrecruit Les Miles or Saban. Arkansas is a program that has never recruited well and likely never will. Arkansas did not need a recruiter. It needed a coach who has proven he can win with less and Bielema has certainly done that on a consistent basis in the Big Ten.

I'll have to say this one came out of left field. If you'd asked me for a list of coaches I thought Arky might hire, it'd be a loooong way down the list before I remembered to put him, mostly cause I didn't figure he was available.

But 68-24 and winning the B1G 3 times? That's a quality resume, and a major pull from a good program for the hawgs.

This is a home run hire in every sense of the expression. National media is shocked that we were able to pull this off, yet these Lsu bitches think its a laughable hire.

Fact is he has a better resume than Saban did when Nick came from Michigan State. And Saban brought Lsu out of the cellar, so let's hold off judgment until the guy actually has a chance to coach a game here.

What made his run offense go at Wisconsin was his huge offensive line. They have the reputation as having one of the largest/strongest OL in the country. He won't find that many OL that size down here in his recruiting areas. His first press conference on national signing day should be a classic, if he has enough time to understand how recruiting works in the SEC. He only thinks UM was cut throat by simply talking to previously committed recruits. The recruiting BS runs a lot deeper than that in the SEC. His first trip to Memphis will blow his mind.

Bielema will never beat Miles, Muschamp or Saban.

When is official announcement expected?

He won't need Texas as much if he maintains his ties to California New Jersey and Florida. I believe he will stay in StL also.
