Basketball Coaching Search Needs to Start Now

Let's stop with the Will Wade talk and let Verge put his own stamp on the hire. After hiring Lane, he's earned the right to go out and find a power conference coach and give him the resources he needs to make this program successful. Let's not go the mid-major route again. Awake the sleeping giant and put money behind the only money-making sport other than football.

How about Grant McCasland? Totally destroyed us and made it to the Elite Eight.

Hell yea should have been who we hired when we got CMM.
I do think McCasland did just sign a hefty extension but I don't care about money. They got to fix this program!

Save the money for baseball/football, WBB is losing money. Move Mulkey to MBB and see what happens. It would be an attraction.

I'm still in denial about this being a possibility.

Surely you are missing someone in this list.
Thanks to S for posting this gif.

I am sure it is happening behind the scenes.

Let's get this out of the way now before this discussion really heats up in March.
THIS ISN'T FOOTBALL.
Poaching big time power conf. coaches doesn't happen often in basketball. Kentucky, a program with more resources and more investment than any program in Americal last year tried to do it and couldn't...at least with respect to the guys they really wanted. Scott Drew and Danny Hurley turned the offer down. So did Billy Donovan.
Look at the current top 25. There are only two programs within that poached a power conf. HC from a school that wanted to retain him. Illinois (took Underwood from Oklahoma St) and Kansas (took Self from Illinois). The other coaches came via the mid-major route, being an assistant coach, or were a power conf. HC their former school was happy to see move on. Here is your top 10:
1. Arizona (HC was an assistant at Gonzaga before taking the job)
2. Iowa St. (HC came from UNLV)
3. UConn (HC came from Rhode Island)
4. Michigan (HC came from FAU)
5. Purdue (HC was an assistant on staff promoted to HC)
6. Duke (HC was an assistant on staff promoted to HC)
7. Houston (HC was an NBA assistant...because he black balled due to a show cause penalty)
8. Nebraska (Fired NBA coach)
9. Gonzaga (HC was an assistant on staff promoted to HC)
10. Vanderbilt (HC came from JMU)

Why? Presumably the goal in hiring a HC would be to find a coach who can win, right? So why would you ignore a coach who did so at a higher % AT LSU than any other LSU coach in 100 years?

Will Wade is not a good in game coach. He’s a recruiter. That’s a fact.

Georgia did well with the Mike White hire. I wonder if there would be a similar candidate we could pick up depending on end of season firings. A retread who mayve not gotten a fair shot

There's not much upside in those hires. Mike White is like a mid floor, low ceiling guy.
Personally, I think taking a swing with someone like the Saint Louis coach is a better play. That said, probably going to be a hot commodity this offseason.

If Lee Mallet wants WW, we’ll get him.

How so?
Given that statement is a "fact" you should be able to explain it rather easily

Show me a set play out of a timeout that actually worked for you Mr. Wade.
