I don't think Miles will leave LSU for another coaching position. If he leaves, it will be via retirement.

He was turning the culture around.
Butch Davis had already done that. Slipped some under Coker. Randy did a great job restoring it, but his record is completely unacceptable in year three at the U. Losing to USF showed the lack of progress on the field.

Since 1960, eight coaches have won national championships at jobs that were their first head-coaching assignments: John McKay, Barry Switzer, Vince Dooley, Danny Ford, Joe Paterno, Tom Osborne, Philip Fulmer and Bob Stoops. This group accounts for 14 of the 50 national championships in that time.

If he is I will eat my words but most alum with $$$ are talking Harbaugh right now
Everyone here knows that.
The question is what will happen if/when Harbaugh passes on Michigan which is a real possibility IMO.
The potential hire list becomes pretty short for Michigan at that point. And, there is a contingent at Michigan who would welcome Miles.

only 2 of those did so in the last 25 years. Most of those did so in a different era.

If RR is fired and Haughbaugh turns UM down, Miles will be offered, and will go. Can't blame him to live his dream. Jack Del Rio will be named LSU HC.

Plausible

1. Why do Del Rio's name keep coming up on this board? Have you given up on the absolutely laughable moron's pipe dream that is Gruden?
2. Why do you want Del Rio?

His daughter attended LSU
His agent expressed Del Rio's interest in LSU in the past two coaching searches
As I said, not an implausible scenario.

Heard the same thing....from Snowbirds...they do not want LM back. He will retire from LSU.

I want Miles to stay a tiger for a looong time. After seeing the other hires made I would be very scared to see who we would hire with our current AD in place.

And only Bob Stoops and Joe Pa are still coaching and Joe Pa has been coaching forever so really Stoops is the only one from this current era that applies. Of the coaches hired in the last 15 years or so that number is what one out of how many? Lately it hasn't worked out to well. If you are a business man looking at trends 60 years ago and wholey apply them to the present with out taking into account recent history your business strategy is flawed. and thats what Major College football is now a days, a business.

Exactly, wish I had seen this before I posted.

Les Miles is going to be the LSU coach for at least 4 more years. He is not leaving the talent he has in place to go to Michigan. When Miles didnt go in 2007, that was him passing on the job forever.
I dont think RichRod gets fired unless Harbaugh agrees to take the job anyway.
But Miles isnt leaving BR until he retires or gets fired. And with the team he has on campus- that gives him at least 3 years of good football

All this shite about needing to be a HC before being a HC. You idiots with this line of thinking need to do some research.
I got a good laugh out of this. Thanks.
As others have pointed out, in the last 25 years, only 2 coaches who made the jump from coordinator to HC have won a national title.
In other words, it's rare.
Oops.

I guarantee you we either have Harbaugh locked up or we are sticking with Rich Rod if we can't get Harbaugh.
I agree with this. However, I don't understand why Michigan fans scoff at Miles as a potential head coach after Harbaugh passes. Michigan is not where they were 10 years ago. They need a good coach that can start rebuilding the program by recruiting, staying clean and winning games. RR brings one of those. Miles brings all three.
He is clearly not perfect for a school that is positioned to take the step from top 10 program to top 1 program. But Michigan is not a top 10 program anymore.

Mike Archer, line 1.

Michigan fans are hardly scoffing at Miles. Most if not all of us wanted him in 2007, and I'm sure there are still people who want him here. I'd take him still. He had to do what he had to do and decided to stay at LSU given the circumstances. No one can fault him for that. Michigan won't ask again for the simple fact we were already turned down once.
