I imagine Kewan Lacy is the issue here. Lane probably hires Frank Wilson without thinking twice if he didn't think it would hurt him in recruiting Lacy as Kevin Smith is not going to take an off the field role. Lacy is a special back, probably better than Quinshon despite not getting the hype. I know Lacy hasn't been thrilled with Lane and tweeted as much before deleting it but if Lane brings Smith, it may smooth things out.

I think the contributions of Frank the Tank are mostly in the past. He is a relic of the past. We no longer need someone like him. You have recruits now going straight to schools through agents. Folks at Ole Miss want him. I am not a big fan. I don’t want him anywhere near my team.

That’s the same way I felt when we so many times had a RB rush for 6 ypc in the first half only to not see him run for the rest of the game.

The FBS rules are only 10 staffers are allowed to recruit. If Frank isn't the RB coach he can not go into schools to visit players and coaches as a recruiter. Kevin Smith as the newly hired RB coach would be the 10th staffer. Unless Lane restricts a different staff member from recruiting, so that Frank woud be able to as an analyst.

This is a bad look for Wilson, IMO.
If your spot is in limbo or uncertain, talking to the media about it probably isn’t going to endear you to your new boss.

He's staying on to coach the bowl game, right? It certainly seems like Kiffin isn't going to retain him but he still has a job to do there until the bowl game is over.
