He failed at USC because he took Pete Carrol’s job after they were placed on probation. The culture there at the time made it hard for recruits to want to come there especially after they lost their natty and Reggie Bush gave up his Heisman but just got it back. Lane has had a winning record everywhere he has coached except USC.

Kelly had 10, 10 and 9 wins in his 3 full seasons as y’all’s HC along with a Heisman trophy winner. And that got him fired. So let’s not pretend “10 wins would become the norm” is a positive thing at LSU

Who do u think is better and why

No coach is a sure thing. Look at coaches like Tom Herman and Lincoln Riley. They were the hotshot for sure things. Instead they've both failed. With Kiffin he has games that are just randomly awful. Look at the Arkansas, Washington State, and Kentucky games this year. Look at the Florida and Kentucky games last year. Hell against OU he ran that stupid 4th down play when he was up and let Ou back in the game. To get him you're going to have to make an incredibly favorable contract for him to get him, and you can't afford to fire him if he fails while you're also paying Kelly. I feel like it's better for LSU to hire a guy like Sumrall at a reasonable price and have the funds to recruit and get transfer portal guys.

You are right. 10 wins during the regular season. 10-2 regular season is a performance enhancement.

Before we went to 12.

That gets you into the playoff now.

I would pay him $10K more than Cignetti got at Indiana. Buyout would be $15 million if he were to get canned by LSU, but it would be $95 million if another school were to try to poach him.

Woody likes to be a trend setter, so start a new trend with fresh tactics toward contract buyouts.

We don’t even know if Kiffin wants the LSU job. The man supposedly has a few homes in Florida.

he has come a long way and was like 35 when he took the USC job

He has had a successful offense every year at Ole Miss with 3 different QBs which I like.

We wouldn’t just be hiring a coach who caught a good QB at the right time for 1 season.

He had a winning record at USC as well. He even finished #6 in the AP poll in one of the seasons they had a postseason ban.

I certainly wouldn’t be unhappy or melt if we hired Kiffin… seems like a good fit

That said, I personally think we should go a different direction… don’t go after the headliner guaranteed contract splash hire … do your due diligence, find the right guy with the right mindset and drive, go young, go offense, lots of built-in financial incentives in contract to reach our goals

If this was after O, I’d be all over Kiffin. But coming off Kelly I personally think many of us want to stay away from the splash hire that we get bent over on the contract

This is why I like someone like Jedd Fisch at Washington Huskies. He's 49. He turned an Arizona mess in three years. The first year at Washington after losing Kalen DeBoer and other coaches and players was expected. This year, Jedd Fisch is getting better.

Kiffin is also likely playoff bound. Can we afford to wait until Mid January?

I just doubt he'd accept the job after we overlooked him when we hired Kelly and now you most likely having Woodward make the hire again.

If Kiffin isn’t on the top of the list- Woodward needs to be fired immediately

Incredibly high ceiling and and floor

Imagine if you will playing Lane Kiffin every year if he’s coaching Florida

LSU is going to have to pay about that much for a big name hire , that’s just the way it is now.
I don’t really have a problem with how much they pay a coach but hopefully 10 year contracts and insane buyouts are a thing of the past.

If it becomes a bidding war between Florida, PSU and LSU...

Better add Ole Miss to that bidding war as well - they will match anything and likely get last look.
