You need a coach who has recruiting experience, able to deal with press on a daily basis, donors, and still be able to lead young men. Kelvin Sheppard is good coach but has zero experience neither does Joe Brady. They are both young in their NFL careers and also if they wanted to coach in college they would already be coaching college.

These threads need to die.

I wonder how much of player recruitment Austin Thomas handles. College GM role is gonna change how players are acquired.

I am surprised Matt Patricia isn't getting into the discussion.

No idea what level of interest LSU would have in Sheppard, but I do think he's an interesting guy to consider. He'd no doubt recruit, and it seems his leadership skills are highly respected for such a young coordinator. Dan Cambpell's opinion has to mean something.
Always remember the sound bite of him after the 2010 Ala game when he gave a game ball to Miles and said something along the lines of, "we don't give a shite what everyone says about you". Paraphrasing it, but our locker room exploded after he said it. Was the moment a lot of us realized kids would run thru brick walls for Miles. I could handle a little more of that in our program. The dude bleeds P&G and after Kelly, that has to be a factor.

Cool. He’s not going to be the next head coach.

To be fair, he might be, because no one else will take this job after Landry keeps telling every coach to get fricked

NFL sometimes gives guys HC jobs after only a year or two of being a coordinator. Yet everyone here thinks a college doing it is impossible.
Coen was an OC two seasons, one where he actually called the plays.
Canales was an OC one season.

NFL and CFB have evolved into different jobs.
In many ways, NFL HC has evolved into a coordinator of one side of the ball with overview on the rest of the team. Lots of these guys are just Offensive geniuses that call plays, manage the roster, and let their DC run the entire defense with some small input
CFB isn't like that at all.

damn, you’ve sold me. on at least giving the man an interview.

He's definitely a wild card. I'd absolutely take him over a college coordinator for sure.

yeah he needs to shut up. and if former players are on the hiring committee, i think KS's chances shoot up big time.

Stop it you bamatard. Patricia would be an absolute dumpster fire. His culture as a HC was downright toxic.

Surprised you're not beating his drum.

These soft arse NIL babies could use some toxicity to figure shite the frick out. If you have a southern father and were ever responsible for holding the flashlight, so he could work on the car, you have a different view of "toxic."
I genuinely hate that word. Screams cry baby and lack of accountability. Oh... he said mean words and I didn't feel valued as a person. Get over it.
He'd do well IMO. But, I am also wrong often

A guy that has only coached 4 years cannot run a program like lsu. It’s not rocket science
“ one of us”
“Just has ‘it’”
“Wow what an impressive press conference!”
“Need someone tough!”
Are not legitimate reasons to hire a coach.

I'd be more comfortable with a couple of more years of experience. He has done well this season, so far in my opinion doing a better job than his predecessor. I hate to sound like an O tard, but he is familiar & aware of the culture. The day to day operations, recruiting, etc is big question. If he was a more proven commodity, it would be a slam dunk hire.
