On the job training? Tell that to Ryan day, lanning, smart, etc. that line of thinking is what gets you BRIAN frickING KELLY! You people are morons

Those guys all spent years as a college coach for years working under two of the best to ever coach. I love Shep but it’s an apples to pomegranates comparison.

If the new coach wants him to be the DC I’d be all for it.

IF LSU were to hire someone without HC experience, it would have to be a guy with years of coordinator experience, like a Brent Venables or somebody of that magnitude.

And that's a BIG IF

Kelvin Sheppard has been a coordinator for all of 2 months.

LSU is not the place for on the job training

Every active head coach that's won a national championship had 0 head coaching experience when they were hired as HC at their current school. Dabo, Kirby, Day. (Dabo is somewhat unique in that he was an interim that got the full time job but Clemson isn't on the same level as the other programs in question)

LSU is an elite job but if you think you're somehow superior to Georgia and Ohio State and not just lumped into the same tier of elite jobs you're completely delusional.

I had my reservations about him and not having head coach experience. Really don’t care anymore after hearing him talk.

Thats all it takes huh?

Having such a rigid requirement in today’s landscape may be a mistake.

I’m not advocating for Sheppard but Dabo and Kirby have 4 national titles and I think 6 title game appearances between them and neither had head coaching experience beforehand. Dabo was never even a coordinator.

I agree. Reality is he will be an NFL head coach in the next 3-5 years so why not get him before that happens.

It might work out, but this would be a very underwhelming hire

Again I am not advocating for him but nothing is a sure thing.

Hell we just fired someone’s who was thought to be about as sure as it gets.

Whoever is in charge of the hiring search needs to find the right coach not the right name to satisfy idiot fans.

Well no. But I think that’s their point, he didn’t play at another school. He bleeds purple and gold and will run through a brick wall for the university. I think there are better options than Shep, but where he went to school and the fact he learned program building from DC are huge attractions for me.

Promoting Blake Baker to HC would make more sense than Sheppard. At least he has experience coaching in college football (>10 years).

I'd rather Frank w/ Kelvin at DC

So you want a guy who is 26-40 as a head coach, you read that right, 26 wins and 40 losses, and a guy who’s been a coordinator for 1/2 a season?

It's not just about the X's and O's man. The coach of LSU is way more than that. In a sense he has more power than the governor.
You have to not just be a coach, but a politician, a power broker.
You are the highest paid state employee in Louisiana.
Sheppard is awesome, he's a bright young talent with a promising future.
He's not ready to be the coach at a job like LSU.
He'd be over his skis from jump street.
He hasn't recruited, has no network, nothing.
Yall are straight tripping.
