Just another opinion piece

I’d say it’s a fact that he’s a piece of shite if he walks on this OM team as they are on the cusp of a potential national title run.

Timing is everything and it's rarely ideal. Difficult decisions are called difficult for a reason. The flip side is that he stays at Ole Miss and remains in a situation with a lower ceiling only to regret not moving up when the opportunity was there.

But I think they did give an ultimatum.

Okay. Well I'll take what Kiffin said as true. You know, he is involved in this process, and not you, right?

Word is he wanted to stay through the playoff. That was the word early on.

If he quits on a team headed to the playoffs, he’ll quit on the next team too.

Would it be shitty? Yeah, absolutely.

But the blame lies at the feet of the leadership of the sport and the calendar and environment they have created.

And neither are you. That’s my point.

It sucks but it's also the reality of the new CFB calendar. James Franklin was fired and already has another job with two weeks left in the season.

Ole Miss wonts make it past the first round. Lane knows this.

Laying this all at Lane’s feet is unfair. LSU and Florida are great jobs, and if he passes on them this cycles he likely loses the opportunity to go to either in the future. He owes it to himself to do his due diligence, which is what’s happening.

Neither LSU nor Florida will wait until this season is over to hire a coach if they can help it. That sets them way too far behind for 2026. Ole Miss cannot wait until the season is over and have Lane choose to leave for the same reason.

There are several factors that go into this being a shitty situation. So, again, laying it all at Lane’s feet is unfair.

ETA: I’m not even a huge Kiffin fan, but he didn’t create this timeline. I will admit he’s doing himself no favors with the Twitter posts.

tl;dr “it’s terrible that college football is a business when LSU or Florida is the benefactor”

As annoying as the national media is sometimes, it is nice to see they are calling Lane out on his bullshite despite needing Lane for clicks/engagement.

Y’all can downvote, but Wetzel is 100% spot-on here.

He may very well end up at LSU or Florida but you can’t convince me otherwise that the biggest troll in CFB isn’t playing a bigger game here. This is the same guy who played Auburn like a fiddle up until the last moment and then left them scrambling. He essentially forced the AU program into a desperation hire and reaped the benefits.. Right now he’s got two big fish on the line. One is desperate to regain relevance and the other is desperate not to slip backwards into the middle of the pack. If he plays this right, he can do to these two schools what he was able to do to Auburn, leave them at the alter and inject some turmoil into the programs.

Would you guys feel the same if Lane announces he leaving early next week and before the playoffs Ole Miss and Sumrall are all over the news? His team is also on the verge of a playoff berth, after all.

I’m sure you guys would be fine if Ole Miss let him finish out the season, missing the December transfer portal and the early signing period, all because it would be wrong of him to leave Tulane, right?
