Nope. They need to be 10-2 next year and in the playoffs in 2023.

I’m getting in board with this but there needs to be results now.

Anyone Complaining about this hire is a fool.
Lsu just fired a guy that won a national title 2 years ago! Our Ad had to make a big Time Hire.

I know a bunch people Love DAranda, Hell he was a good coach when he was here and a Great Defensive Guy. But lets take away the fact that he coached here his record is 12-9!

Napier as good as i think he will be lets be real he has been head coach a ULL. The sunbelt is not setting the world on fire!

Woodward Really had only a few choices

The Big Time Splash Guys:
Riley would have been a home run

Jimbo (yuk not again)

Kelly a homerun (but lets be real nobody thought of him not because he can't coach, he coach at notre dame the most storied college football team of all time. Who would leave notre dame)

Maybe insert a NFL guy but was unlikely

Then he had the second Tier Guys:
Kiffin
Tucker
cambell
Aranda
Napier

I mean we got one of the biggest fishes you could get in college football.

As far as Age Look i wouldn't have mided going younger as well. But Brian Kelly will Stabalize the Program and we finally have a well respected coach that people won't Laugh.(our last two one ate grass and couldn't talk and the other just ripped of his shirt!
Dabo, Saban & Smart LOL yeah wasn't happening

Certainly. Briles is toxic or would otherwise have a top tier job now. Rhule is in the NFL, albeit struggling.

I’m saying the last 2 coaches there were very successful. It’s far from what it used to be. I think Aranda would have been successful, but let’s not act like it’s Duke

Kelly is just as, if not more likely to go 10 years at LSU than just about any of the other names hired are to go that long at theirs. There are hit names every cycle that end up being a duds by the next cycle.

Let's see who is at their new school longer between Kelly and Napier, for example. No matter how many times we see it play out, some folks don't understand that young doesn't always mean 15 year one-school dynasty. It actually almost never does.

Saban was hired by Alabama in 2007...at 57 years old. How many "young HCs" have come and gone through the SEC alone during that time? Will Muschamp has already cycled through two SEC schools. Florida just hired their 4th HC in 10 years (the prior three never even sniffed the playoffs). Tennessee is on coach #5 during that time period. Kevin Sumlin looked like one of the best HCs in the country in A&M's first season in the SEC...until he wasn't. The only "young" HC who looks like he is going to have real staying power is Kirby Smart.

I get the appeal of hiring a guy in his late 30's/early 40's. If he is great then it could mean a 20-30 year run of success. But quite frankly that possibility has RARELY ever turned into reality

His career started out on defense. Def coach, DC then he moved to HC quickly in career.

Until Saban retires, there isn’t a guy who offers this, period. Kelly is actually the best option to disrupt and give us a chance to win one championship in the next 5 years

He’s an offensive mind.

And if you look at what everyone has been bitching about on here for the past two months he checks off all the boxes.

#1- his players are disciplined on and off the field
#2-unlike O, he has been an offensive coordinator and is a master in the offensive philosophy.
#3- he may know lore about defense then O and Les combined
#4- he has a proven winning record.
#5- he’s a good recruiter and has pipelines to numerous states
The list goes on and on. He’s done more with less talent then any coach in the nation.

I think Woodward’s MO is guys with long track records of winning

When Kelly retires maybe Aranda will be ready

Sometimes I think you type just to read what you typed.

I LOVE Dave Aranda. Scott Woodward is a professional. As much as I like Dave Aranda, you can't say something like that. There's no irrational anything, or weak emotional responses for a guy like Woodward in a situation like this. He just landed the second winningest active coach in college football. How you can say it's irrational hate for Aranda who is NOT the second winningest active coach in college football is troubling for someone who purports to be the smartest guy in the thread at all times....just stop.

You're still sticking to this story? Come on, man. Y'all got played. There's no way Woodward was throwing around $12-$14 million to get Riley, got outbid by USC and then, in the matter of 24 hours, pivoted and landed BK for $9.5.

Both the Riley and Kelly deals have been weeks in the making. I imagine the Riley to LSU smoke was Trace Armstrong trying to get USC to sweeten the pot at the end.

A stop gap, is a winner for me. I'm almost 80, so I'm personally not wanting to wait for a dynasty.
Win now!

Not sure if this true or not, but I'm a big Aranda fan and he is a rising star. However, he only has 2 years under his belt, and I'm guessing SW wanted a more proven coach.

irrational hatred = hiring a coach with a 263-96 record over a coach with a 12-9 record

He had just turned 55 a couple of months before he was hired at Bama and didn't turn 56 until he was 2 months into his first season.

Brian Kelly is almost exactly 10 years younger than Saban. He has already turned 60 and will turn 61 during his first season at LSU.

If you baws who follow coaching can't process the difference 5 years makes in "football years", then I just don't know what to tell you.
