It actually did happen. I was watching the game.
Find the clip.
There was an ESPN article saying they were in discussions but the UH AD is quoted in the article saying he wasnt aware of ANY discussions with LSU.
Everyone knew the second Texas became open that Herman wasnt even going to think twice.
There was a short window where Herman could have gone to LSU but it never evolved further than maybe a few initial discussions.
Aside from that, the timeline and nature of the information flowing from that search wasnt even close to the timeline of this one.

You want me to find a clip of the ESPN ticker scrolling across the bottom of the screen from nearly 10 years ago?

The ESPN "ticker" did display a report that LSU and Tom Herman were close to a deal during the 2016 coaching search, which ultimately turned out to be false. Tom Herman was never actually hired by LSU; the report was part of a rapidly evolving situation where he ended up taking the head coaching job at the University of Texas instead.
The "ticker" report played a significant role in the coaching carousel of November 2016:
The Report: On Thanksgiving night, November 24, 2016, as LSU was playing Texas A&M, the ESPN bottom-line ticker reported that LSU and Tom Herman were near a deal.
The Leverage: This news is widely believed to have forced the University of Texas's hand, prompting them to act quickly to secure Herman, who was then the head coach at the University of Houston.
The Outcome: The very next morning, November 26, 2016, Texas officially hired Herman. LSU, left in a state of "panic mode" according to some reports, then immediately hired interim coach Ed Orgeron for the full-time position.

It doesn't exist and it never existed. Its probably you misreading the bottom scroll and not being able to tell the difference between "its happening" and "its done".ESPN clearly left the door open for Texas.
If you knew anything about Tom Hermans background then you could see it was always going to be Texas. LSU was barely in the picture.

LSU has zeroed in on Houston's Tom Herman as its next head coach and could have a deal in place as early as Saturday, sources said Thursday.
But another source said Herman hasn't ruled out an offer from Texas, which has been expected to make Herman its top choice if Charlie Strong is fired.
quote:
Cougars athletic director Hunter Yurachek told the Houston Chronicle he was unaware of any changing job prospects for Herman.
"I have not been informed by Tom or his agent that they are in conversations with LSU," Yurachek said via text, according to the Chronicle. "We are in Memphis together, preparing for a game."

You’re arguing about something that scrolled across ESPN’s ticker 9 years ago.
The exact wording may be murky, but it absolutely involved Herman and LSU.

There was a time when ESPN reported Herman to Baton Rouge on a live broadcast and it didn't happen. Smoke doesn't mean shite till its officially announced.

Smoke always mean shite it just doesn’t always mean what you wanted to mean.
It’s like ignoring a weather forecast because it’s not right 100% of the time.

Im just showing that its not the same as the current situation at all. Not even remotely the same information or guarnatees put out.
Only ESPN said "could have a deal in place" while everyone knew the Texas job was going to swing wide open.
Sexton was probably using LSU knowing damn well Texas was the bigger option.

No, you’re trying to at argue that it didn’t ever happen.

Who cares if people feel like the situations are similar?

This is directly from Ed Orgeron on discussions between the A&M game and when he was hired two days later:
quote:
“Let me tell you what happened that day. Okay? So, we go to Texas A&M, and we tear them a new one. Derrius Guice ran the football up and down the field. I get back on the plane and Derek is sitting in front of me, and his head is down like that. We just won a big game. I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ I come — it’s, ‘Coach, too bad. They’re gonna hire Jimbo Fisher,'” Orgeron said.
“Well, the next day, I go to meet with the athletic director, me, Derek, and Austin Thomas. We’ve got the binders. We got everything ready. Alleva comes in, who is a great guy. He looks at us, he has his head down. He takes the binders and he pushes them. Doesn’t even open them. I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ I’m kicking Derek and I’m kicking Austin. What’s happening? He says, ‘Guys, I hate to tell you, I’m going to meet with Tom Herman tonight. We had a good run.'”
The meeting referenced above would have been that Friday after Thanksgiving. Texas played TCU that day. They had yet to fire Charlie Strong, and there were still some discussions on whether they would given it was just his 3rd season.
The Herman closing in on a deal with LSU information was leaked to ESPN by Herman's representation because he wanted the Texas job. Herman's agent wanted to leverage Texas into the market. If Texas didn't get it, Herman wasn't going to pass on the LSU job. They did, and Herman agreed to take it. Alleva was angry and rushed to the podium to announce O as the permanent HC on Saturday morning

Sexton wasn't Herman's agent
