Chavis was faulted a lot earlier in his career at Tenn for being too aggressive and blitz happy. In '98 and '99 when he still had a d-line and good corners he blitzed a lot. Won an NC with that style. As the talent at corner and d-line dropped off so did the blitzing.
Name some top flight pass rushers and corners from Tenn over the last 6-7 years.
Chavis is a solid defensive mind who can use a variety of schemes. Our NC team last year put up all of 14 points on Tenn on offense in the SECCG last year, with our prospective 4 time Heisman winner at QB and a supposed wizard running the O.
Lowest point total of the season. Chavis's resume is a ton better than Walker's. Just blitzing a lot means nothing. We blitzed a lot this year with the co-DC's. We were blitzing and playing man on the TD that Arky beat us on if I recall, and the long pass over Hawkins against Fla, and the one that McCray tipped to Harvin, also on the long TD pass by Ga, also on the last TD by AU, and the long pass by Bama in OT.
Covering and getting there is what counts, blitz or not.

i highly doubt willis is staying, he was told to leave like the rest of the coaches sunday. Another possible guy for DB is Charles Kelley from georgia tech, he has coached at nicholls and was the special teams coordinator at tech so he fits both areas if its chavis and joe rob leaves

AU boards are saying willis is staying at AU
To be honest, I never thought he was leaving. Unless he was just loyal to Tubby or something and didn't wanna be there anymore, I don't see why Auburn wouldn't try to keep him and why he wouldn't stay. Of course this is AU athletics...

all the assistants were fired monday, what boards are you looking at? i cant find that on their rivals or scout boards and i think a couple "in the know" tiger fans felt his coming here had legs

thank god someone besides me realizes that we blitzed alot this year. The problem is we didn't get there when we blitzed.
just like an offense needs to mold to its talent, so must a defense. A good coordinator is not either a blitzer or not, he gameplans and adjusts to his players strengths. Arnsbarger was a bend but dont break guy, but n certain games blitzed a lot because he knew it was our best chance. Even the name we don't mention decreased his aggresiveness this year.

where did I say I wanted a DC who just randomly blitzes with no idea when to or where from?
and our problem wasn't the fact that we didn't blitz. It was how we blitzed

Yeah, Payton was asked about his staff next year with Marrone leaving for Syracuse. He was then asked about Orgeron and he simply said that he expects Orgeron to be back on the staff next year. Nothing earth shattering because he wouldn't say anything different at this point I wouldn't think......I mean, I can't picture him saying "yeah, coach O is actively seeking another job".
He also can't say that he plans on firing the entire defensive staff...even if he plans to do so.
There is a lot of smoke around Orgeron taking a college position. If someone chooses to believe what Payton says over those reports, that's ok.
But, there are many plausible explanations as to why Payton may make that statement and Orgeron still moves on.

If Chavis is the man, would he not want to bring Larry Slade in as the DB coach?
Posted on 12/19/08 at 3:30 pm to BhamTigah
I sure hope not. UT fans seem to despise the guy

I just don't get why Miles will tell the media he likes an aggressive style of man D yet never makes a hire close to that. Are you just pandering to LSU fans telling them what they want to hear?
I mean if you like the soft zone just say thats the style you prefer
What % of the time do you think LSU plays man on the outside?
What % would you like to see man played?

This could push BilJ over the edge; clear your desk of anything sharp before reading.

I wasn't aware of that. I work with several UT fans, and they don't feel that way. I'm not saying you're wrong, as I know very little about him.

I am about to grow a stache in support of Chavis.

drex's stats have made me go from thinking this would be a solid hire to a below average hire.
His Ds are poor to mediocre and he doesn't recruit? Yay
