Never been, looking for a quiet weekend with the wife. Shopping, dinner, brunch, sights, etc. Recs?

Great little town to spend a couple days in. Stayed at the Hampton Inn on the square which was nothing special but you can walk to everything. Lots of little shops nearby and some good restaurants. Had an awesome meal one of the nights at Tamara’s.

Panini Pete has two good restaurants there. Panini Pete’s and Sunset Pointe. He’s a buddy of Guy Fieri and both have been on DDD. Both are very good. Try the snapper throat at SP.
My favorite is Dragonfly. A dive that serves some interesting, fantastic tacos.
Downtown has tons of artsy shops and boutiques. Just casually stroll around, in and out. They can be a little ‘snooty’ though.

Restaurants:
Make dinner reservations for Hope Farm now. Great food and atmosphere.
Southwood Kitchen is another great dinner spot.
Washhouse next to Grand
Jesses in Magnolia Springs. Just a short drive from Fairhope.
You can still access Grand Hotel if you don’t stay there. Take a walk down the boardwalk (next to fishing pier) along Mobile Bay
Grab a drink in courtyard area overlooking bay
Downtown offers shopping and a few bars.
Fairhope Brewing has good beers
Look into renting a boat and cruise Fish River and Magnolia Springs

Recs?
Maybe bring a handkerchief?
Other than that it's a good low-key place to visit.

I was there recently. It is very nice and very unlike anywhere else in Alabama. Almost like the Truman Show meets Mayberry. Where did all the wealth come from and how did it land in such a small area?

Hampton Inn Daphne has the same view as the Grand for $300/night less. Fifteen minute drive into town.
I just ate at Gambino's a few weeks ago, not sure what the hype is about. Some silly mob-oriented vibes plus a mediocre attempt at a Gene & Georgetti's feel does not make up for mediocre food.
There is a lot of good food in the area that folks have already listed.

—Except you’re not in Point Clear, so not the same view, and you’re at the Hampton Inn, not the Grand Hotel

Red or White is an absolute must while in Fairhope. Great wine selection (obviously) and great flat breads and etc. And biscuit king in the morning, 10 minute drive for incredible stuffed biscuits.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Saying that, I've been to Fairhope/ Point clear maybe 50 times and disagree with your entire post except for the last sentence. To each their own though.
