...I watched in utter disbelief and heartbreak as we lost a game in Athens, Georgia that we should have won. I'm sure some of you remember it well: all day long, we stayed within striking distance of the highly ranked Bulldogs, until, finally, with 41 seconds on the clock, on fourth and 17, Josh Booty hit Reggie Robinson in the end zone for a touchdown, putting us behind 23-22. An extra point would most likely have forced overtime. But, instead, then-LSU coach Gerry Dinardo called for a 2 point conversion attempt, an attempt that failed when Booty's pass to Tommy Banks in the back of the end zone was knocked away at the last moment, causing us to lose to Georgia by a single point for the second straight year.

26 years ago today, unranked LSU went to the Gainesville to face the #4 Gators and whipped them 24-13 in a game not nearly that close. That win got us in the polls at #18,the first time LSU had been ranked since defeating Florida, 20-3 in 1979 in the game after the dramatic Southern Cal heartbreaker.

booty could have ran that 2 point in pretty easy. I was not happy. esp later in the year when his stupid arse tried to run when he should have thrown it.

So, in other words, beating a 4th ranked Florida team in Gainesville gives us something in common with....Ole Miss? I don't want to ever have in anything in common with that "school".

Utter disbelief was being at the Houston game later that same year.

I'm one of the biggest critics of Gerry DiNardo, but he was right, it could be said, to go for 2 after the touchdown. And if not for a very athletic play by the Georgia DB, we would have pulled it off.
DiNardo knew that there was no way our team would last in overtime. Which I guess was more of an indictment on the poor conditioning of our team and the inability to finish close games during his tenure.

II Padrino, are those sig pics of the damage done to the field by the LSU fans doing donuts the night before?

I believe it was a linebacker who was actually out of position on the play and just made an incredible leap to snare Booty's pass.

And 232 years ago the Untied States gained our independence. What's the relevance?

it is history. you must be a Bush "no child left behind" grad to not want to review history, since schools can no longer teach it.

I was at that game. I remember it feeling like it was 110 degrees with NO humidity. I took my shirt off and drapped it over my head to block the sun. The Tigers scored the last touchdown in the endzone where my seats were. All I remember is by the time we stopped jumping up and down for the touchdown, LSU had rushed onto the field to attempt the two point conversion. By the time I figured out what was going on, I was watching the ball being tipped away (by a fingernail) from a wide open Tommy Banks.
Needless to say, I went from estatic to depressed in a split second. Leaving the stadium that day, every Georgia fan said that they should have lost that game.

I was at that game, too. The entire game, LSU was kind of sluggish, just hanging around. You didn't get a sense that LSU could win it until the very end. I remember our seats were crappy and UGA fans yelling at us after the game. I was thinking "You almost got beat by one of the worst teams in the SEC, and you're acting like you won the championship.".
Will Witherspoon was the LB who deflected the pass. If the pass had been a little longer, or had a little less air under it, it would have been completed. I just remember it was in the air forever - giving Witherspoon enough time to catch up to it.
