If you can't call plays and sets to create mismatches and get yourself into advantageous looks in order to get high percentage shots, you are going to have a very hard time scoring consistently.

There's entirely way too much iso ball played and has been for a long time. The extra pass isn't made, there's horrible shot selection after horrible shot selection and it's game in and game out and year in and year out.

There has to be some sort of identity on offense that is not rooted in hero ball.

Wait…chucking up prayers in the lane over 4 defenders with nobody down low to get a rebound isn’t a sound, efficient offensive strategy? You’re just a Negatiger.

What I love about these posts is how people like you provide ZERO stats such as touches per shot in the 1/2 court; run outs that were missed or TO, etc. Go back and rewatch. Part of the philosophy was to take it to the hoop and get fouled. Pinson getting into foul trouble hurt no doubt. Our center instead of catching and shooting decided that he could fake out a taller more mature player.
It was a bad match-up when you can’t make wide open 3’s. LSU had a TON of open looks and made little to none. I will say that Wade needed to pull Gaines and tell him to quit shooting. There is a balance there because you don’t want to ruin a players career in one game.

None of you have ever coached any organized sport and your ignorance shows.

Curious as to whether or not you could identify some sets and half court plays that auburn ran which was apparently was the difference in the game to you. Bottom line is we can't shoot and when you can't shoot you have to play incredible defense, which we did for 12 games. Going on the road in one of the toughest environments in conference is tough, we knew that. This team is tough and so is tPear. I'm predicting a much better showing next week on our home court

I mean, you can throw out all the stats that you want to, but this team plays hero ball on offense. I've seen it with my eyes this entire season and every season that Wade's been here.

It works when you have a dynamic guard or two that can fill it up, but ours can't right now. Gaines sure as frick cannot and Williams hasn't had enough of an opportunity to.

Damn near every possession last night it seemed like we were dribbling around, dribbling around, dribbling around, pick at the top of the key, guard drives, shoots over 3 defenders, and he either made it or there was a defensive rebound with a foul or two in there every now and then. It was either that or we dribble around, dribble around, dribble around, make a pass and the guy shoots a three.

Real difficult offense to figure out.

The half court offense makes my eyes bleed. No one can create shots & none of the guards are good at setting up other players.

This is where you miss a guy like adam miller.

On top of that this team doesn't have nearly enough shooting. Everything is drive to the lane and layups.

How in the world can you ruin a players career in one game?

Touches per shot can be misleading and empty at times, I don’t count the meaningless weave 30 feet from the basket handing off the ball with no screens involved to create immediate, open, high percentage shots as touches. That’s where getting caught up in stats are meaningless at times. What’s more effective, getting a high percentage shot for a made 2 or 3 from a well executed screen on the first touch or not executing good screens, passing it around with no screens but getting 10 touches and a highly contested miss on a 3 or drive to the goal?
Most every game is predicated on winning one on one matchups. They run the screen game to gain mismatches but rarely the screen is to create an open, catch and shoot situation, the majority of the time it’s a poorly executed screen game which doesn’t get a mismatch and therefore they end up trying to beat their man in a contested 3 or penetration to the rim. Why I mention the lack of execution and lack of fundamentals is, that is what will win the games like last night. I’m not saying his offense is bad, I’m saying it needs more fundamentals.
I’m saying the players are not executing the offense fundamentally and therefore they will struggle in these situations. The thing you can be critical of WW on, is not demanding good execution and not trying to get more open shots directly off of screens in a catch and shoot situation ( mainly for Days who is a good spot up shooter ).
Pertaining to Gaines, he definitely should have pulled him and took the time to tell him he valued him penetrating ( more than shooting 3’s ) to create a kick out, goal at the rim or foul.
John Stockton and Karl Malone thrived against more athletic players, why, because they “executed the fundamentals to perfection “ of one of the most basic facets of offense, the pick and roll.

yep, early we were moving the ball and getting some pretty good looks at 3 for the most part and were just missing them.

So WW said - and rightly so - F that, try to create a mismatch and drive the ball.

The offense is a spastic wind up toy...no philosophy, no direction, and no leader

This is spot on. I’ve said it before, WW’s teams will struggle in situations like last night. Just as athletic teams, good on ball defensive teams will have a great chance to beat his teams because of the lack of execution of basic fundamentals in the screen game by the players of his philosophy on offense.
The guards don’t rub off the screen therefore there is no need for switching by the defense most of the time. When there is a good screen executed, neither guy involved in the screen reads the defenders on when there is an early commit on helping and screener needing to flash immediately to the goal and also needing the guard to recognize it and immediately hit his man flashing back to the goal.

That is the philosophy of the offense, is to set high screens to hopefully create mismatches ( which doesn’t happen most of the time because of lack of fundamental execution of screens ), so they end up in a one on one situation. When this happens, you either going to struggle mightily against athletic, good on ball defenders or dominate against inferior talent in spite of lack of fundamentals. We know what happened last night. I’m not totally against his philosophy, I’m against the fact the players aren’t fundamentally sound and their execution is poor and also think they need more screens for catch and shoot situations. They rarely do this.

20% from 3PT isn’t all bad shot selection though. Several of those looks were wide open. We just can’t hit ‘em
