City Park golfers

Got roped into playing city park in Baton Rouge for the first time in years after a bunch of persuasion from a few buddies. While the course conditions were much better than I expected (for city park), the golfers were not. I would call the golfers out there hackers, but that requires a base level of skill to where you can at least make some solid contact. Basically every group we saw were either beelining shots into the trees or topping it 3 feet in front of them continuously. It doesn’t help when majority of these groups are singles to go along with the already non existent pace of play. I’m all for growing the game and being welcoming to new golfers, but if you’re out there taking dollar bill sized divots 5 times a hole I think you should spend a little more time on a driving range. Rant over

That's the joy and pain of a municipal course. There are going to be hackers. Many of them did not grow up learning basic etiquette like letting faster players play through. Hell, there are MANY country club members who could use a refresher course in basic etiquette.

You're going to run into that at the cheapest course in town. I play out there all the time and if you are walking it's hard to beat a $9 green fee

Doesn't sound like it. They are at city park man they aren't taking up tee times at the country club or the bigger brec courses.

STFU, just enjoy being out there.

Yea. If those people are clogging up Santa Maria with a 7:45 tee time Saturday morning, I'll get on my soapbox. But midweek at City Park??? Go kick rocks

A lot of y’all missing the point lol. Funny seeing all the downvotes and stuff like “kick rocks”. Enjoy your muni golf

What was your point? You just wanted to bitch and have us agree with you?

I do think that a lot of golfers at Municipal courses need to learn golf etiquette before playing. I sometimes play with some guys that aren't good. But they understand golf etiquette and we never hold anyone up. I don't care if someone is bad at golf because we've all been there at some point. What I do care about is whether they suck and play fast. Your rant sort of came off the wrong way by how you worded it.

The guys that park at the lake and walk on to avoid the $9 charge are the real scum bags.

I must admit that sometimes I will park at the lake and eat lunch. Then if no one is coming I will grab a 9 iron and go hit 2 balls. That makes me 1/4 scum I guess.

Imagine paying those prices for golf in the middle of Louisiana's capital city (primest of the prime real estate) and complaining about a single damn thing.

I agree to some extent with the rant, but no matter how bad a golfer is, all golfers need to learn to play faster. I’ve been as low as a 4 handicap and probably a 14 or so now, but I’ll join up with and invite anyone to play with me to speed it up. I always tell someone, it doesn’t matter how bad you are, just play fast. I used to love the old ladies that played on the old front 9 at LSU. They played so fast it was unreal. Golf shouldn’t take 5 hours for 18 walking or riding.
