Ukraine has one of the largest militaries in Europe, but the media, across the board, are acting like the Ukraine resistance is just a bunch of guerillas and armed citizens.

I don't know exactly what you mean. I'm assuming it's the notion that there is a real military there instead of a pack of guerrilla fighters. But I do get the impression that the citizenry is taking up arms in the fight. It's gonna be very difficult for the Russians to exterminate a dedicated force of hundreds of thousands or a million citizen fighters. And the death they may impart is going to look very, very bad on the world stage. It may be so bad that at some point the Russians can't handle it.

While I am certainly skeptical of main stream media this hasn't been how I have perceived it. They have certainly shown folks in the city ready to protect it if it comes to that but I don't think they are acting like those are the folks taking out tanks and planes.

One of the best effects of Trump's rise is that for millions of people, big media, big government, and big tech have zero credibility.

Regardless, they're acting like Russia is invading Belgium when Ukraine has more military personnel than any European country not named Russia.

But when Russia has to hold ground in the cities these folks are going to make it miserable for them. They are as important as the military is some ways.

The difference in total active duty personnel is roughly 900,000 for Russia and 300,000 for Ukraine. The difference in heavy equipment like tanks is about 5 to 1. The difference in air power is off the charts, as Russia has total air superiority now.

Has anyone in the media claimed that Ukraine has no military? Ukraine is greatly overmatched.

Did the Russians mobilize their citizens in defense of the motherland in WWII?

While Russia is 40% of Europe the vast majority of Russia is on the Asian continent. RUSSIA IS HUGE.

I point this out, because even though Russian has 3X the military of Ukraine, all of the 3X is not in or near Ukraine. Every bit of Ukraine hardware and people are in Ukraine ready to defend, no way Russian can put 100% of its forces and equipment in the Ukraine.

That's not saying much and it was never really about manpower. I was expecting Russia to wipe out all air defense systems and have complete control of the skies by now. I also expected them to be far less concerned with civilian casualties.

Russia made a huge mistake arming & funding the war in Donbas. Over the last 8 years, more than 400,000 Ukrainians gained combat experience. It appears that is making a massive difference mentally & strategically for Ukraine.

This^^^ and the longer the people of Ukraine hold the Russians off the more likely additional military hardware will find its way into the hands of Ukrainian Freedom fighters.

This is my exact point. Freedom fighters? Ukraine has a relatively large, capable military. They're not some volunteer militia.

WildMan Goose, you have to get off of this. The Ukrainian military will not defeat the Russian military. What are they going to do when they run out of gas and all the runways are pocked marked with holes? But if a chunk of everyday Ukrainian citizens have guns and ammo, they can make it hell for the Russians. And if Ukraine has any chance to survive this it will take the military and populace to do it.
