Let's get this album its own thread.
We have 3 singles now. I enjoyed Lightning I and II more than Unconditional I, but Unconditional is solid.
Looking forward to this album.

every review I have read so far says this is an elite-tier Fire album.

Supposedly AF is going to release a sister album around a year after this is released. Just a rumor tho

This Friday
I may get a physical copy of this, where the hell would I go to buy a new release CD?

About 3/4 of the way through first listen and… I needed this. Really really good.
A good indicator is that my wife came into room and said “Damn. This is good!” She’s the type of person who I have to subject to new music repeatedly before she starts to like it. This album, though, is like a warm, fuzzy and familiar Arcade Fire blanket.

I know almsot as little about AF as one can know. Here is the extent of my knoweldgge:
-I listened to suburbs a while back. It was ok, but none of the tracks stick in my memory and if one was played right now I wouldn't be able to recognize it
-I listened to funeral and liked it better. There's a couple tracks on there I would recognize if I heard them.
-I have literally never heard any other song or album by AF aside from the above
Wiht that in mind...does this album compare favorably with those 2?

Yes. It's much more like Funeral and Neon Bible than anything they've released recently.
I mean, it's kind of operatic concept-driven indie rock. Individual songs are good, but the album is best digested as a whole.

Listened to the whole thing in the car this morning, first listen it seemed kind of slow to me, all the songs were heavy acoustic and paced pretty slow.
I'm about to listen to it again now that I have had coffee.

You are not a fan. There are songs on there that are simply iconic and brilliant and unique.

Thanks for "adding" to the Arcade Fire thread w/ I'm not a fan. Nice take.

If all AF fans are like you then I'm glad I'm not part of the club

Baw, he seems interested in the band but hasn't heard much, so "not a fan"...yet? Why you being such an arse to him?

Say what you will about the music, but there's no way this isn't the most pretentious track listing ever assembled.
1. "Age of Anxiety I"
2. "Age of Anxiety II (Rabbit Hole)"
3. "Prelude"
4. "End of the Empire I–III"
5. "End of the Empire IV (Sagittarius A*)"
6. "The Lightning I"
7. "The Lightning II"
8. "Unconditional I (Lookout Kid)"
9. "Unconditional II (Race and Religion)"
10. "We"
A "Prelude" and a whopping FOUR tracks broken into chapters? "The Age of...," "The End of...," "Race AND Religion"?!
It's as though they're daring us to listen to this thing. These guys must be loads of fun at parties.

"What we have here is a failure to communicate..."
Some breakdown occurred between he and you at some point during this thread. I understood your original post and intent and appreciate that you're AF curious.

It's always hard to tell whether they're being ironic and tongue in cheek or whether they REALLY take themselves this seriously.

Posted on 5/6/22 at 2:21 pm to hogfly
Probably. My point was if you don't like Funeral, you may not like other albums because that is their best and most accessible. One listen into this one, and i'm not a fan yet.
