Gator cases

I got one of their plastic molded cases used for $60 tonight, looks like they usually got for $150 new.
I believe I'm in the minority here but I really prefer the plastic molded cases just because they're much lighter, slimmer, and easier to maneuver than the standard dreadnought cases.
This model seems to be very sturdy and well made.

My Takamine came with that type of case, the Takamine logo molded in, when it was new.
Now that it's 30 years old or so, the shape seems to have distorted. Maybe from getting too hot or whatever, but it doesn't seal up well anymore.
It's still just fine, as far as protection from bumps, drops etc...it's just not very good protection against elemental changes now.
So, I guess, that type of case needs to be treated as well as the guitar that goes in it. Don't leave the empty case in the trunk of your car, or the corner of your garage. Don't put a hot pot of crawfish on top of it, or do any welding or burning, close to it.

I recently became a Gator dealer when I started building custom demo guitars to host all our pickup designs. Our initial order was 19 injection molded rectangular ATAs. Took up over half one UPS truck.
Gator make excellent cases that are an incredible value for their street prices.
All plastic/vinyl/whatever goop molded cases are not equal, especially the cases of the 1970s and 1980s compared to today's materials. Today's goops are much more resilient to heat, moisture and general abuse. Much harder to crack, split, puncture.
I stored a half dozen of our new cases in a U-Haul trailer all weekend two weekends ago at the Dallas International Guitar Festival. Those cases COOKED in that box under the Texas sun. They were warpy when I pulled them out of the trailer, but they flatted back to normal when they cooled. No lasting damage. The inside insulation, padding and liners were unaffected.

My MIM Strat is in one. Some people poo-poo them because it’s a “guitar center case”.
Hell I can’t find a thing wrong with mine. I have a BlueRidge Acoustic whose case might break one day. I’d buy a Gator Case for it. No problem.
Frets putting nicer stuff than my stuff in them.
Guitar Center gets some things right sometimes.

There's nothing poo-poo about Gator. Here's what I entrust with Gator cases ...
Sold three of my high-end custom guitars and a high-end custom bass at and after the Dallas show with Gator ATAs. No complaints from the buyers. I gave the bass buyer his choice between the molded Gator or a G&G double stitched rectangular wood 'n' tolex case. He took the Gator for its lighter weight.

I think I see 2 Daphne Blues peeking out of there. Far left looks more "Daphne", the middle one has a brighter tone. Sucker for Daphne Blue.

Far left was ice metallic blue. Sold.
The P-bass was a metallic blue, darker than Daphne, lighter than Lake Placid. Sold.
There's a seafoam green in there too ...

So you know Larry Mitchell?

SF Green always trips me up. Even made an offer on one once. Thought “they got it wrong. That’s Daphne blue”. Im sure they didn’t get it wrong. They just look deeper blue to me. Maybe I’m color blind. I never see “green” in them.
Beautiful stuff man. Sounds like you did well or at least ok. At least paid for your trip and time and got to geek out over other guitars while growing your business.

I really like the look of that Thinline over his right shoulder. P-90 at the neck, or mini-humbucker? Hard for me to tell by the photo.
A nice simple wood pickguard, would make that guitar look great.

Larry did spend considerable time in my booth, super nice guy and an incredible player. He liked my P-90s a lot. The SFG above has three soapbars, middle wound RWRP for hum cancelling selection options. Same with the ice blue metallic one we sold to another buyer ... those are P-90 blueprints shoved into a strat footprint ...
The Thinline has two P-90s. That bridge pickup is a P-90 blueprint shoved into a Tele pickup footprint. Gorgeous ash under see-through white. This guitar will NEVER get a pickguard on my watch haha.
Considering we are getting way off the topic of Gator Cases ... no more non-Gator replies. My recent builds probably should be in a separate thread. I can start one if there is interest and if it's not deemed self-promotion.

I think most MB posters would agree, post as many guitar pics as you want!

I think a thread for partscasters and self built, or kit guitars would be pretty cool.
You could include any individual custom pieces(pickguards, whatever) that you make. Maybe some of your hacks for making your own tools, jigs, finishing tricks..
