I think LSU should look at Ben for our pitching coach. Seems to have great personality, very knowledgeable about pitching, relatively young to relate to current players and loves LSU. Just food for thought

I feel like pitching more than anything has changed over the years. Idk that I’d want a guy that hasn’t been in the thick of it from a coaching standpoint.
We need someone who knows the science and all that bullshite.

This is way down the list of qualifications for any college or pro coach.

Maybe Michael Jordan, loves to compete, played minors for a few months.

food for thought...he makes plenty of money not to have to have a stressful year-round job like coaching. He's in his mid 50s with a nice retirement gig that only requires him to work half the week for half the year

How about we get a guy that has proven he can actually coach players to pitch? Not just take a guy because he was a great player and went to LSU.

Would never happen been is happy doing what he's doing.

One would think that if he wanted to coach he would have done so.

I love Ben McDonald as a spokesperson and as a commentator but no on coaching. Pitching has gotten so technical that although Ben could flat out hum it and can communicate what works in general, the in depth technical knowledge might be unfair to expect.

Has he ever coached at any level above travel ball?
ETA Hey jackass with the downvote, probably the OP, it is absolutely the only legitimate question posed to your fantasy.

He's a great broadcaster. Should stay with it.

I check all those boxes except for the baseball knowledge part. I’d be cheaper too.

It’s not a bad idea at all but McDonald has been away from competition for a long time and it would be a huge lifestyle change. On top of that LSU doesn’t have the balls to make that kind of move. The people who run LSU are wannabes and cowards.

I personally would like to consider Rob Childress as pitching coach.

No it hasn't. Get ahead, throw strikes. I'm not advocating for Ben as the PC, but physically throwing the ball hasn't changed. There is a lot of technology around it, but pitching a baseball hasn't changed as much as the guys trying to get you to pay for your kid want you to think.

I am sure he could do it but is great at his job rn

He doesn’t want to coach. He’s been contacted every year for the past few years. He loves what he does and money isn’t an issue
