Players using the portal to come to lsu to improve draft stock?

Baylor ss and Creighton's pitcher. A part of the portal(I'm gonna improve my draft stock transferring to lsu) I didn't think about.
Don't know what to think. A potential signee could go else where when these other guys come here and sign knowing this would help their draft stock and never really intending to play at lsu? Not sure using the portal to help your stock in the draft is something lsu appreciates when you could careless about lsu. I could see a hs kid but not a portal guy. Oh well, I'm sure many both many are gonna execute my take.

I think We signed way more peopel than we ever expected to show up.
Losing Pineda sucks but Guidry is coming and I think Young comes too.

Am I missing something? I don’t know how committing to LSU boosts their draft stock.

these dudes have been scouted inside and out since they were 12.
transferring to LSU (and not even playing) will have a very minimal effect on their stock.

They used transferring to a major school as leverage to get a bigger contract. They were drafted where they were because they are good prospects. Not saying I like it but they didn’t get drafted because they signed with LSU.

Yes, but they transferred here precisely to up their draft prospects. If that happens before they ever play an inning, so be it...

Not really draft stock but it can’t hurt to have a major college program to point out as an option while negotiating a contract.

It’s a clown take. Kids that never swung a bat nor threw a pitch at LSU didn’t improve their draft stock by announcing a transfer to LSU
Only “Dick move” here is your post.

More potential NIL money = bigger deal from the MLB team to match

I didn't think about this at all either and I was convinced he was coming to LSU after his interview with Mikie

No, CJJ knew the deal when they transferred, Tebrake never even had been on campus and signed a day after the portal opened. If you didn’t know what it was then that’s on you, everyone else did.
It’s like signing a top 20 HS recruit, you take a flyer and every once in a while you get a Bregman or a Crews

quote:same concept that players would do coming out of hs... commit to lsu knowing they not coming. The Lsu brand/name drives mlb to draft an lsu signee with more muscle(money) so to speak just because lsu is a place where players have passed up 6/7 figures to play at LSU.

Committing to LSU as a transfer did not change how MLB teams thought of this players. Johnson took commitments from them understanding how the MLB thought of them and they may not come.
Now them being committed to LSU may have raised the price for them but all it takes is one of 30 teams willing to match that price.

quote:I agree but that wasn't what I meant. LSU is a place where players have passed up mlb(lots of money) to play at the Box. With that being said, the belief is mlb will offer a bigger contract to get one away from lsu. Come on guys, where have some of you been? It's not rocket science.
Not saying I like it but they didn’t get drafted because they signed with LSU.

quote:disagree, see bregs, crews, Jones and many others who turned down big money to play at lsu. Players know this so they use the lsu brand by signing to increase their stock never really intending to play for lsu. Just stock. Money. No where in my post did I say lsu alone gets them drafted. See lsu draft eligible players who didn't get drafted this year. HOWEVER, Lsu got these signees more money(is the play) because of the "risk of staying" at lsu as the past has shown.

If you heard Creignton pitcher on Moscona, you knew he wasn’t coming to Baton Rouge unless shite went waaaay south. Same with Gervase, though not quite as extreme. His interview was a lot of thanking the people of Baton Rouge and expressing his gratitude of his 1 year there. His plan was clearly to take a small break to rest, then go to the Cape and impress enough to go high enough to get his pro career started. Those 2, I expected.
Pineida was a bit of a surprise, because I never heard anybody even suggest he might not make it to campus until the past 2 days. I just wonder how the communication between him, the interested teams, Jay, and guys like Guidry went. Guidry is a draft eligible SO, so if he came to Baton Rouge and wasn’t pretty sure he’d be an everyday guy his 1st year, then he only had 1 year to increase his stock and his money. So, if Jay felt like Penieda was gonna come, Guidry may have felt more pressure to make a deal and sign. But Guidry is on campus and playing, maybe Jay saw him and realized he’d rather have him for 2 years than Peniada for 1, despite his youth. There’s just so many moving parts that Jay has to be right on top of top of to be able to be aggressive, yet honest with all these guys. I can’t imagine how difficult that juggling act is. Especially to do it in a way where your reputation not only doesn’t take a hit, but actually increases because of your candor. I’d love to hear him work—he must be fan fricking tactic with the way he communicates without bullshitting.
