The State of Vermont is 94% White

It seems like a Democratic stronghold like Vermont would be doing something to address the racial disparity it is currently dealing with. After all a proper balance of minorities is needed in our universities, public and private sectors to ensure success. Why not a state? I’m certain Texas could help out with the Hispanic shortage. (2.2%). New Orleans and Baton Rouge could help bring up those black percentages. (1.4%). I bet even Bernie would be willing to house a few folks until they got settled in.
Think of it like affirmative action. We will all be better off for it in the end.

The Democratic Party is currently the dominant party in Vermont. The party has almost complete control of the state, with the exception of Republican governor, Phil Scott. It controls Vermont's at-large U.S. House seat, one of its U.S. Senate seats, and both houses of the state legislature. The other U.S. Senate seat is held by Independent Bernie Sanders, whom caucuses with the Democrats.

Perhaps Broome and Paul could take a trip out to Vermont to find out what their secret is to such a low crime rate.

Truly one of the great "wtf" moments when I realized that a large % of the liberal and progressive white people in this nation have 0 interactions with black people in a year or even their adult lifetimes. Yet want to lecture, legislate, or tell others about race relations or racial inequality. They quite literally live in a different world and it shows.
Edit: Also quite the hilarious moment when anyone tries to point out Bernie Sanders involvement in the "civil rights movement". Like he is some kind of icon when his contributions involved protesting and "bringing to light problems" at the University of Chicago when it was only 2% black. And in Vermont which at the time was 4% black in the early 60's. Quite literally he stood on the sidelines away from any real problems or danger its not like he went to the deep south or brought his activism against bigoted police forces in a major city. He did it for a checkmark next to his name for later political office and of course it worked. The article I read from the New York Times and even Washington Post quote him and others as saying how monumental his activism was getting the University of Chicago to allow like 22 black students out of 12,000 to live with white students. Thats great it really is but for them to make it out like he went and helped hundreds of thousands of people get equal voting rights or equal access and funding to education is beyond repugnant.

Burlington needs more of this. Diversity is our strength. Even when it comes to architecture.

In his defense, and there is a huge amount of evidence from both republicans and democrats on this. When he first got into the US Senate, he told the old Dixiecrat leadership at the time that ran the party, when it was a coalition party and government of white segregationist southern Dixiecrats and lily white northern activists Democrats that he ran because he wanted to help or be a part of civil rights change. Funny story actually is that he had to meet John C. Stennis who at the time was maybe 3rd or 4th most powerful senator, and Biden said he was afraid. Stennis asked why he became a senator so young. Biden said he stammered out "to help black people and civil rights". He said Stennis just leaned back in his chair smiled and said, "Interesting, very interesting, you can go now."
He was a US Senator for 38 years, basically 46 if you include the 8, as he was chosen to somehow make up for Obamas relative lack of legislative experience

Also, the few black people they do interact with are educated and come from good families from higher socio-economic cohorts. You can even take race out of it. Many of these coastal elites don't ever interact with trashy white people, either.

Need stop on Teddy's sister city list is Stowe, VT. She intends on understanding why their crime is so low

The south is much much more diverse than the north.

Vermont’s approach is to basically make it impossible to get a decent job there. Thus nobody moves there.

Friend of mine grew up in central Pennsylvania in the 60’s and 70’s. Never saw a black in person until he went to college. Only on TV.

My [identical twin] sister and I talk about this almost daily.
We’re Texans—born and raised—but her husband is military, recently stationed in Boston. They lived in New Hampshire, as they refused to give a single dime to the Massachusetts economy, if they could help it.
She described how the people there were so fricking clueless and judgmental.
They enjoyed NH, but were homesick AF for the beauty of the Mexican culture and the diversity of Houston. My nephew attended a public school that was 100% white and English speaking. My sister and BIL regularly heard judgments about Texas and its “backwards” people, coming from wealthy white liberals whose tax dollars don’t support millions of undocumented people via hospitals, schools, food, services, etc.
Those damn Yankees make assumptions about people and lives so diametrically different than theirs, they can’t see straight.
This country is far too vast and fragmented to healthily function.

We have unemployed people. They don’t need a job. Why be unemployed in New Orleans when you can be unemployed in Vermont.
