Anybody read this ?
It started with promise but I’m half way in and it’s reading like a phd dissertation ( boring) does it pick up?

No, it is what it is. It’s also a bit out of date. Hancock has a few different ideas these days.
Read The Sign and the Seal. It’s more of an historical mystery.
Skip Fingerprints and read Magicians of the Gods next instead.

Science has disproved some of his theories as well

I read Fingerprints probably 20 years ago. At the time I was convinced Hancock was onto something, but nowadays I am really skeptical.

Sign and the Seal may be onto something. Every Hancock book after that is really a money grab. I love JRE podcast as much as the next guy, but Rogan's endorsements of Hancock are based on ignorance of how history/archeology/anthropology/geology work.
Most of Hancock's theories are easily dismissed.

The idea that there are relatively advanced civilizations that we don't yet know about is very plausible. Even probable. Technologically superior civilizations, though? No actual evidence whatsoever. In order to sell books, Hancock has to use hyperbole and make grand claims.

Literature about how ancient humans innovated cutting techniques and moving giant objects without advanced tech are more interesting to me than easily discredited theories about Younger Dryas Impacts and such. But Hancock is the one making large of amounts of money instead of me, so all the power to him.

I’m guessing you haven’t read the latest research. There is now a verified black mat layer and confirmed nanodiamonds. The nonsensical study that “disproved” the nanodiamonds did not adhere to the same measurements and methods, nanodiamonds were found in other studies using the original methods.

It’s the same story with the K-T boundary, these events take time to confirm.

Now, I won’t go into Hancock because I read finger prints and found it boring.
