NFL sends warning letter to Bruce Arians, Buccaneers

The decision to impose a one-game suspension on receiver Mike Evans was only part of the league’s reaction to Sunday’s brouhaha between the Bucs and the Saints. The NFL also had a message for the team and former head coach Bruce Arians.
Per a league source with knowledge of the situation, the NFL sent a warning letter to Arians and the Buccaneers in the aftermath of Sunday’s incident.
Arians was properly in the bench area generally, but he was clearly in the white stripe reserved for officials, players, and coaches during the altercation. He also was clearly involved in the verbal aspect of the kerfuffle.
The specifics of the warning aren’t known at this point. Presumably, the Buccaneers face potential penalties during the game, and Arians faces potential discipline in the form of a fine or possibly even a banishment from the bench area. Regardless, it likely won’t get to that.
“He’ll comply,” the source said.
The league realizes that there’s a potential problem from having a former head coach serve as an unofficial agitator and/or otherwise behaving as if he’s still the coach even though he isn’t. Good for the league to shut it down, swiftly and decisively.
Pretty good video imbedded in the article.
If this is the extent of how the league handles this then that is pathetic.

What would you have them do? They addressed the issue, and he won't be where he isn't supposed to be.

frick that. Force them to give up a draft pick.

THIS… how is he any different from a random fan on the sidelines instigating shite???

Look, I'm all for it, but logical thinking asks where is the precedent for that?

For starters how about addressing his instigating of Evans. If they at least address this even if they claim to not have enough evidence to pursue the accusation at least they acknowledge it.

Warning letters are worthless

The fact that people seem to be ok with evans just getting a one game suspension absolutely blows my mind

To make it worse, there are people (not just Bucs fans) that think it should be less. I am actually surprised Evans appealed, not that he has anything to lose.
To the poster who asked, what more should they do; at a minimum he should be banned from the sidelines for the season. He can still handle his written job duties (advisor to GM) during the week, but can't interfere with the in game coaching. At a maximum, there should be a 1 week suspension where he has to stay away from the facilities and cannot have contact with other members of the organization.

agreed, i even saw the idiots on ESPN saying evans should be given an atta boy instead of a suspension because he got his team fired up and it turned the game around for them
think about that for a minute, ESPNs official non official response is evans did good and should get a high 5 for doing it

Bruce Arians is a piece of shite. His only saving grace was Brady pulling another BS playoff run. He would have been fired after 2020 if not for the Super Bowl.

Don't be naive. This game was huge for them. They were already humiliated Nationally that the Brady led Bucs have not once beaten the Saints and now they were faced with a Winston led Saints team possibly beating them again. So they pulled out all the stops. They lied about Arians not having anywhere else to go but the sidelines. It is pretty much accepted that Arians chided Evans to "go protect his teammate" or something like that.

I dislike Arians, always thought he was a bit of a smug prick. I do not think he belongs on the sidelines either, but where do people keep getting this form that he told or encouraged Mike Evans to go onto the field??? I've seen a bunch of people on this board say that, but I feel like y'all are just piggybacking off of what somebody said as their opinion. I haven't seen any video that shows Arians talking to Evans. And Evans has proven already he is perfectly capable of being an idiot and a POS all by himself.

How about because the league is looking into him about possibly being a verbal agitator and also lying about not having a spot provided in the press box.

Arians and the G.M. were on the sideline to stir up shite. That is obvious. If he didn't directly involve Evans then so be it. Where there's smoke there is often fire. The league needs to investigate it.

Where was the logical thinking where we were the only team to give up a draft pick for covid protocols? When numerous teams were breaking the same rules? Including the commissioner himself?

Its not naive to ask a question.

None of this answers the precedent question.
Look, we can go on for many responses to this, but the fact is that I cannot recall any front office people being punished for sideline antics of any sort. He got a warning. If he does it again, different story. As far as chiding Evans, we all suspect that is the case but don't have solid proof of instigation.
