Have any of you ever tried this?

My oldest golf buddy and I used to play a game where we pulled each other's clubs for each shot. Usually we would play nine normally then pull clubs for the other. I can't help but feel this improves your game especially when tasked with hitting a long or mid iron for a short iron or wedge shot. Great fun and makes you imagine new shot types for each club. Anyone???

Not that specifically. There are other fun games out there that change things up. I’ve done a 5-club challenge with 4 other scratch golfers. What was so fun was how well we all played. It simplified the club and shot selection so we all just played every shot smart. The worst score was a 75.
Another fun game is where you have to move back a tee after you birdie or better and get to move up a tee when you bogey or worse. You stay at the same tee if you par. There’s some strategy with this one especially if you’re betting too.

I've seen people mention the 5 or x number club challenge. What is your strategy if I wanted to try that? On the surface, I think I'd go with Driver, 7, 9, 52, putter. Driver is the only one I'd debate over. I'm much more consistent with driver than 3 wood but only by a few percentage points.

Would depend on the course and how far out you’d be for most approaches and par 3s. One guy went with his lob wedge for a putter. Dude was lights out.

Used to walk with a 5,7,9 and putter. No tees, just a few balls in my pocket. Fun to work on shots and basically shot the same scores as a full bag

My daughter and I every once in a while will play a couple of the holes with each others clubs... I can't hit her driver to save my life ..

I think I'd go 3 wood before I used a wedge for putting. But if it worked for the guy then that's awesome.
A buddy is newer to golf and we did an experiment on a par 5. One ball we played with the full bag and one ball we played tee to green with the 9 iron only. He shot one stroke worse with the 9 iron and I tied my score between the two balls. Was mostly wanting to demonstrate that driver off the tee isn't always the best decision.

If I ranked my clubs from most likely to least likely to take in an X Club challenge, putter would be last by a large margin. I'll thin a wedge for my putter every time.
Can only think of a course or two where driver wouldn't be the first club in my bag.

Last one I did rule was 4 clubs plus putter..super didn’t want people gouging greens trying to put

There was a kiddy club challenge at a recent scramble I played in. I sprained the ring finger on my right hand when the driver hit the ground 8in behind the ball. Hurt for like 6 weeks everytime I swung a club after that.

Those are great practice ideas no doubt. My local course has a 3 hole practice course that I've played thousands of times with only a couple clubs. For me it's always been driver, 6I, 9I, 56' and putter. Sometimes I'd throw in a 3I to mix it up a bit.
What I can't understand is the downvotes at my game. I think learning how to hit many clubs a particular distance develops a certain feel required to become to the best player you can. Players that lock into one club for one yardage has always irked me.

never tried that one. we mostly play wolf. it's a perfect game when everyone's skill is the same and everyone thinks they're the better golfer

She's not swinging kids clubs, but she is swinging custom fitted G425 irons which I can hit.. But her driver is a Ping G LE Driver.. it's so light that it throws my timing completely off
