Movie-theater chain and meme-stock darling AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc. has announced “Sightline at AMC,” with ticket pricing based on sightlines of the movie screen within the auditorium.
The ticket pricing initiative offers three different options — Standard Sightline, Value Sightline and Preferred Sightline. Standard Sightline seats are the most common seats in an auditorium and are available for the traditional cost of a ticket. Value Sightline seats are in the front row, as well as select ADA seats, and are available at a lower price than Standard Sightline seats. Preferred Sightline seats are typically in the middle of an auditorium and are priced at a slight premium to Standard Sightline seats, according to AMC.
"Sightline at AMC more closely aligns AMC’s seat pricing approach to that of many other entertainment venues, offering experienced-based pricing and another way for moviegoers to find value at the movies,” said AMC’s Chief Marketing Officer Eliot Hamlisch, in a statement. “While every seat at AMC delivers an amazing moviegoing experience, we know there are some moviegoers who prioritize their specific seat and others who prioritize value moviegoing.”
Theaters that offer Sightline at AMC will provide customers with a detailed map that clearly outlines each ticket option, according to the company. The initiative is applied to showtimes that start after 4 p.m. at participating locations, AMC said, and will not be available under the company’s Discount Tuesday initiative.

At least it's not Cinemark
It's been over 10 years since I've been to either of the AMC theaters in BR
and my local theater quit doing assigned seats, which means I can just move if some idiot won't shut up

Hey, let’s treat the few people still going to theaters like shite.
Sounds like a solid business plan.

Yet another reason to confirm I made the right decision installing my own theater room at home. It has paid for itself in many ways.

Reminds me of the time I was in Denmark and went to see Liar Liar (Jim Carrey movie). I was the only person in a huge theatre. About 10 mins into the movie these two old women come in and start fussing at me in Danish while I was trying to watch the movie. I had no idea what they were saying because obviously I don't speak Danish. I finally told them I didn't speak their language and had no idea what they were saying so unless the building is on fire get the hell away from me. They went and got the manager and he told me I was sitting in their assigned seats and I needed to move to the one on my ticket. I had never heard of assigned seating in a movie theatre before. And there were like 500 empty seats because we were the only three people in the joint.

How much are the "sitting next to a black woman talking loudly on her cell phone" tickets?

Makes sense. I want to pay even more to hear the other people talk and holler around me. frick movie theaters.

Will they charge less for remakes and shitty product, and then more for movies that took some creativity to make?

It only makes marketing sense if they're decreasing the current price of the shitty seats and keeping the good seats at their present-day prices.
Otherwise, it's a ploy to force people to join A-List.
We just cancelled our A-List memberships last month. We bought a new house and right now we enjoy being home more than going out.

Out here in AZ Harkins theatres blow AMC theatres out of the water as it is, this kinda stuff is just going to make them lose even more. Pretty dumb.

I never go when a movie is first released. I usually wait till it’s at least 3-4 weeks in and can pick my seat then if I even go. Most of the time I just wait to watch at home.

Good luck trying to get the usual suspects out of your seats.
