One of the most underrated balladeers in country history IMO. Man could sing a ballad, and "Anymore" is one of the best country love songs ever written.

And a Georgia boy and a big Dawgs fan.

Not just ballads. He wrote great country and southern rock songs and was clearly influenced by legends like Waylon and Ronnie VZ. A no doubt superstar whose music holds up well.

Saw Travis in December '92 at the old Omni in Atlanta for his Holiday Homecoming Concert. George Jones and Trisha Yearwood opened for him, and Gary Rossington sat in on guitar for a few songs.

Really great show, and a few things I remember vividly.

Trisha came out and sand the "oooh ooooh ohhh" harmony behind Possum on He Stopped Loving Her Today.

Travis's set opened with the arena completely dark, and then a video of George singing the national anthem at Kennesaw Battlefield started on the big video screen. That morphed into Travis playing the anthem Hendrix style standing on one of the amp stacks.

Travis inviting everyone to sing along to songs, even if they were off key; as long as they didn't sing "that Achy-Breaky Heart shite."

Buddy and I had floor seats, maybe 2o rows back. Ole boy in front of us was so drunk he puked on himself, passed out, and missed the first almost half of Travis.

Trisha could sing the phonebook and it would sound great. She has a phenomenal voice. I could listen to her sing all day.

But I know she triggers people on here so.....

quote:

you will be in luck on April 28th when the first album from Travis Tritt will finally be re-released to streaming services.

Called Proud of the Country, it was originally released in 1987 via the label Copperhill Records. The album gave Travis Tritt the momentum to land a major label deal with Warner Bros. Records where he spent the next decade, but it went mostly out-of-print subsequently, and has never been available on streaming services.

I saw him in concert a few years ago, and the man can still own a stage. Iconic voice.

What I like about Anymore is the duality of it.

“I’m tired of pretending… I don’t love you anymore” - He's fallen out of love and ready to move on.

“I’m tired of pretending I don’t love you anymore” - He’s fallen back in love and this is his last shot at saving the relationship.

Powerful song, definitely holds up.
