Pricing flights on SW to Disney for Labor Day and noticed that they do not allow you to use your points when making reservations with lap children (child will be ~18 months). Is this a new restriction? If I book my flights for the rest of my family, does anyone know if I can then just call and have the lap child added?

The message says lap children can be added to domestic flights that were purchased or redeemed with Rapid Rewards points at the airport kiosk. But we do not want to wait until the day of the trip to make sure we are able to get our kid on the flight.

Southwest had 2 weeks of flights canceled back in December and just today had flights grounded for a while because of similar software issues. Spend the extra money on a reputable airline.

Looking for direct flights only, my options are SouthWest, Spirit & Frontier. I'll roll the dice with SW as I have had a number of issues with Spirit, and never flown with Frontier.

Also have a about 100k SW points and looking to burn through them.

I have never added my lap child in advance. I have also booked flights with points that he was on. You’ll be fine. Just add the child at the airport.

Bring the BC (short form is OK) because they will ask for it sometimes.

I ended up just buying seats for my kids. It's a pain in the arse to not have their own seat and space.

During COVID, I had my son as a lap child because they were requiring one seat of space, so he'd just sit in the open middle. Life hack

I've also shared this before, but an infant is great bait for vouchers on overcrowded planes. During the holidays book your kid a seat and then bump them. You'll collect the money and the kid will still be with you as a lap child. All the benefits, none of the downsides. Obviously this assumes you'd want the seat in the first place. Don't go buying seats just for this purpose because that's dumb.

While SW meltdown was epic, every airline has had their issues, don't act like SW isn't reputable. The worst airline is just the one that most recently screwed something up for you. Other than spirit and frontier those are always the worst.

You can call and add a lap child. Fairly easy.

Just call them and ask.

We’ve updated it via phone call before. I’ll continue to do that due to PTSD of having to do it at the kiosk on xmas eve when the airport was a madhouse. It was so hectic in there I was second guessing my daughters birthday.
