Ok, I’m doing another road trip thru New Mexico with my younger daughter, like I did with my older daughter a few years ago. We are doing it in reverse of what I did last time.

One night in Austin
Two nights in Las Cruces
Two nights in Madrid/Santa Fe
One night around Dallas

Another thing I’m doing different this time, I will have three teenage girls with me, instead of just my daughter. She’s bringing friends.
Looking for recs in Austin, Las Cruces, Truth or Consequences, and Santa Fe areas for teenage girls.
Only things we have on the agenda so far is White Sands and Meow Wolf. I’ve asked them about Carlsbad, but they are not sure yet.
We will only be in Austin from about noon to night, on the one day we are there.
I see Alamogordo now has a rocket museum, but I don’t think they will be interested.
I’ve never driven up from Las Cruces to Santa Fe via Truth or Consequences, so I’m hoping for some great roadside attractions.
I know about Fox Cave between White Sands and Roswell, but it’s a little out of our way. We may hit it the day we go to White Sands.

Madrid is cool but can be covered in a few hours. Not a lot to do. Roswell has a UFO exhibit that is cool as well. Aliens everywhere as well, lol.

Those teens might like driving through Roswell and visiting the Roswell Alien Museum

Roswell

We did Roswell on our last road trip and were super disappointed. Most of the alien stuff were closed, out of business, and this was six years ago. It was a good jump off point for White Sands and Carlsbad Caverns.

As for Madrid, we’ve been twice. We know there’s not much to do there, but it’s a good jump off point and AirBnBs are much cheaper than Santa Fe. SF has some of the highest AirBnB prices I’ve ever seen.

Have you been to Carlsbad Caverns? I definitely think that's worth a stop if not, its amazing imo how vast it is.

My dad was in the air force in alamagordo when I grew up so there were some nostalgic spots we visited when I RV'd from Carlsbad to Las Cruces.

Sunspot Observatory - Great view over the valley and White Sands. But 30 mins out of your way and only a 1-2 hour stop at most.

Mad Jacks BBQ in Cloudcroft. Fantastic and Im always hesitant to recommend bbq. Long waits and does sell out. 1400 google reviews and 4.9 avg is impressive.

Bluff Springs Waterfall - this was a nostalgic place for me but a waterfall by cloudcroft good chance you are the only people there and there's some hikes around it that are nice.

We stopped into the Space museum but it was closed. Outside is somewhat impressive still. I'd think if interested in space/ aerospace would be worth a stop but if not no.

Interested in seeing your trip report. That's a great area to road trip.

The Carlsbad Caverns is a cool stop.

Roswell doesn't have much to see really except some alien themed decorations and souvenirs. The museum is a joke. Not much to see at the supposed UFO site. Only if you happen to be driving through, but not worth the drive to specifically see Roswell.

White sands is great, they also have a museum on the White Sands installation before you get over to White Sands park on HWY 70. Look for it on your right once you are coming down the hill from Las Cruces.

If is really hot, make a stop in Santa Rosa NM to the Blue Hole.

Gila Cliff Dwellings

Stop in Hatch NM and eat a BBQ sandwich and a Hatch chili pepper burger at Sparky's, decent shakes too.

They have a cool zip line at Inn of the Mountain Gods in Ruidoso.

Some good Pecan farm stores in Alamogordo

Carlsbad

Do it for sure, they will be amazed. I have been in caves so I thought it would be just another cave, but it was damn impressive.

Las Cruces

Spend an hour or two around Old Mesilla, longer if you want to eat around there. Main Street in Las Cruces had several bars and restaurants to sit outside and enjoy the weather. The Organ Mountains are beautiful and perhaps consider a trip or hike at Dripping Springs Natural Area.

If you drive through Gallup, Jerry’s Cafe has some of the best New Mexican food on the planet.

Ride historic Route 66 through some old towns.

Been to Las Cruces a few times. Dripping Springs is well worth the short hike in. Beautiful area. White Sands is cool, but I think I preferred Dripping Springs.

With teenage girls for Santa Fe, you already have Meow Wolf. The Plaza, the Railyard, and Canyon Road are all going to be cool places to walk around and get pictures and such.
