Will have 1 day in Dallas area with my kids (12 and 14). I was thinking the Stockyards. Can anyone give me general info about what to do, what to see, etc.
Or, is there anything else you recommend for 1 day in Dallas?

By the Stockyards, have dinner at the Lonesome Dove then go to Billy Bob's.

Stockyards link
Kids may like seeing longhorn cattle being driven down the street. Lots of shopping down in that area.

Cattle drive down the street every day at 11 and 4:30
There is a barnyard petting zoo, a stockyard museum and a Ghost Story Guided Walk. You can also do a Guided Horse Ride
I would eat some old school mexican at Los Paisanos or Los Asaderos both right outside of the stockyards
The Water Gardens downtown is really cool and free and The Amon Carter museum is free and full of Western Art and paintings by Russell and Remington
There is a nice zoo, botanical garden and japanese Garden all next to each other not too far from the Museum District.

Stockyards during the day is great. What a place to visit. Like others said enjoy the cattle drive. Walk around. As my TCU daughter has aged she has appreciated the stockyards more.
Ohhh make sure you visit the Drover. The furniture is amazing. Go out back and walk around.

Thanks everyone. I watched a couple YouTube videos on the stock yards and now I realize what all is there. Great to hear your recommendations though as I narrow down what we do. Sounds like the cattle drive, shopping, lunch or dinner, and a museum or two. Maybe the water garden park if there's time.
