Where in Maine?

It’ll be chillier than you expect.

I always enjoyed whitewater rafting on the Kennebec (out of West Forks).

Much farther upstate is rafting on the Penobscot - more remote, but still good.

It's also always quite buggy.

Definitely check the temperatures. Fall comes quick there.

If you are going for the fall scenery than you are probably a little early

If you are going to coastal Maine, you may want to check to see when things start closing for the season and plan for a city where things will be open

Portland is probably a decent option and you can kind of explore surrounding areas

My aunt spends the whole month of September in Bar Harbor with some friends. She claims it’s the best month of the summer up there early in the month.

It's a great time to go. In between the summer rush and fall foliage. Basically can do anything and anywhere you would go in the summer. Was in Portland at the end of Sept last year and it was chilly in the mornings, but very nice during the day.

Uh, if in Portland go to Fore Street.

September is the best time to be up there. Depending on the weather, it could be chilly, but probably not.

September is still beautiful...have spent time at Old Orchard Beach mid to late September...frankly it is about as warm as the water gets there.

or late. We were there mid to late October a couple of years ago and had to buy souvenir t-shirts because it was getting into upper 80's during the day. But would drop into the low 50's at night.
