Replace grass around kids playsets

What is everyone putting down for padding around/under their backyard playsets. The one we have has 1 large tower with a slide, monkey bars connecting to another tower with a rock wall, and 3 swings.
Over time the weight caused some areas to settle more than others so it is no longer level. Plus, I am tired of trying to edge around and under the towers. Also, spent some time this weekend replacing a few boards damaged from my trimmer and decided this fall I want to dig up the grass and put down some sort of padding. Just saw an article about the artificial turf company coming to LA and just realized I never considered turf. What's better the rubber pads, turf?

dont really have a good answer other than to say that i, too, have been doing a good job sawing through my wooden playground with a string trimmer.

I put landscape timbers 2 high all around it and filled with mulch.

I bought some rubber pads to line the playset with, but never got around to it because the thought of just putting the padding down crossed my mind.
Thought about the mulch, then I brought the kids to a playground with mulch and saw they wanted to spend the entire time building mulch hills or throwing the mulch in the grass. So, now I'm back to the rubber tiles or potential turf

Regular mulch, just kept it very thick.

I used a perimeter of timbers filled with mulch then used mulch glue because my kids would throw the damn mulch all over the yard in mulch throwing wars.

Regular mulch here as well. Don’t waste the money on padding or turf, after a couple years the kids will lose interest in the playset anyway.
