I love Chip and he's not wrong here.
DeSantis is fine and technically probably better.
But that alone doesn't win elections these days.

DHS falls under the Executive branch. If deportations stopped it was because of Trump. The legislature isn't in charge of enforcing the laws, the Chief Executive is.

Trump endorsed swamp creature Paul Ryan for Speaker, which turned out to be a huge mistake. No Wall, No Obamacare repeal, No pro-2A. I was the only member of the GOP to vote against Paul Ryan, but there was no chance to defeat him once Trump endorsed him.

Ehhh. He had a learning curve. He'd never held office of any kind.
I sort of dug it in a way. I'd like more opportunities to vote for people like that for President. I actually found a lot of it refreshing. Sadly, a lot of people have done a lot to ensure I'll likely never legitimately get that opportunity for anyone else.
I have a difficult time blaming him for Paul Ryan and a lot of his collogues in Congress being shitheads.

At that time, I can understand giving amnesty to those here already. There here, allow them to be legal and move forward. Good luck with trying to round them up, use those resources to address securing the border and being able to concentrate your efforts on that.

No doubt he would do some things different 2nd time around. After experiencing 4 years of being president(having never been involved in politics)then spending time away thinking about what he could have done differently provides him with a unique advantage about how to better navigate and get things done. I know some don't agree but Trump is still standing after EVERYTHING thrown his way, he isn't stupid and would be going in knowing exactly what to expect.

No one was thinking of border security until Trump came along . No one was thinking of trade policies until Trump came along . Everything that is the Republican Party platform is because of Trump having the balls to implement common sense policies everyday Americans see as the problem .
