James Douglas Morrison passed away on this date 1971 in Paris, France from an apparent heroin overdose. Love him or hate him, he was one of the greatest rock-n-roll front men of all time. His last public performance was at the Warehouse in New Orleans Dec 12, 1970 (which was a disaster). He was a rough looking 27 year old when he died.

Had he lived, he'd be 80 this year. Imagine an 80-year-old Jim Morrison still around.

I hate to say it, but it’s probably best he died young. He was on a rapid downhill path.

Right now it seems kind of appropriate the man who sang Light My Fire is buried in Paris.

Not much of a Doors fan but Jim Morrison was an amazing vocalist.

One of the greatest American bands of all time and one of the best frontmen poets we ever produced. RIP Lizard King:

I have been to his grave in the Pere Lachaisse Cemetary in Paris. They have barricades around it to keep fans from getting too close.

The killer awoke before dawn....It's been almost 40 years since and I can still vividly recall when & where I heard The End for the first time.

Here's a live masterpiece with the band in their prime.
The audience is in a trance just like the scene from the Whiskey in the movie.

If he were alive today, there is a good chance he would have played a Super Bowl half time show with Britney Spears or some other God awful shite band.

One of my college roommates was a Navy brat whose father had at one time been on Admiral Morrison's staff. He said the admiral never, ever mentioned his son.

I live right down the street from the house where Jim was conceived. His 1st cousin Bruce was a courier for us. At first we were all skeptical, but his stories were so detailed and specific of him and Jim as children. Then he brought us an old family photo with little Jim in it, and sure enough, there he is.

Bruce inherited the house, and put it up for sale in 2013

There were times I almost worshipped the Lizard King, and there were times I thought he was utterly full of shite.
I guess the truth is somewhere in the middle but closer to the latter.
