Drive time Lafayette to Perdido Key, FL

We are leaving Saturday morning and have been told that construction and typical beach traffic will make for a long drive. I was expecting about 5 1/2 hours.
Any insight?

Depends on the time of day you leave. If you can be through the Mobile tunnel before 7am, you're winning

Leave ridiculously early, early enough that if you have kids in the car or your wife they're still asleep when you drive right past Bucees and save yourself the headache of stopping in that mess.
That's my plan from now on, even if check-in time isn't until after lunch we can do some day drinking or find plenty enough to occupy our time until then.

I’ve you leave very early and don’t stop for Buccees, 5 hours is doable

Find an alternate route on the return trip. They have I-10 shut down to one lane at the MS state line. The return trip from Gulf Shores to Baton Rouge took us 7 hours a few weeks ago.

I was planning on adding. Allow for about 30 minutes+ to go about 4 miles in Mobile to get into the tunnel.
Once in the tunnel and bridge things start to open back up.
As a previous person said this usually gets clogged up around 8:30 most mornings. Weekends are obviously worse.

I would leave at 5am and plan on getting there mid afternoon. Lately the Mobile tunnels and the Mississippi stretches have been messy.
If you leave after breakfast [like every other person with two phones in their hands driving slow in the fast or fast in the slow] it's a day. Plan on a later dinner somewhere that is flexible.
That's a five hour drive on a good day with no stops for gas or food.

Traffic on Google Maps still shows dark maroon for two miles or more before the state line. I'd say it's still broken.

Left Central Louisiana yesterday morning at 5am. Was in Foley for 10am. I was worried as well, which is why we left earlier than normal. It was smooth sailing but going home Monday is going to be a bad! Westbound lanes in Mississippi were a nightmare when I passed around 8am. Definitely detour on the way home.

I left youngsville at 5a on a sat. morning and arrived at 0930. I was by myself and stopped once for a quick piss.

i left BR around noon yesterday for Perdido. Got detoured by Waze when i approached Mobile to go thru downtown and old tunnel. when i popped out, and got on the mobile bay bridge, it was bumper to bumper crawl. Once that started moving, all was good until i got to 3 miles before Buccees exit and there was a terrible accident. Overall, trip was delayed almost an hour due to traffic and bad accident. But nothing construction related going East
As others have said, you should consider the detour in return trip as you approach Miss La border going West. That constriction work had traffic backed up for miles.
