Should you factor in a course’s slope rating in determining your true score/handicap?

Yes, use a handicap calculator to get your true handicap. USGA will do this for you if you sign up.
I always assumed a bogey golfer was a 18 handicap. But bogey golf on a course with slope of 120 is a lot different than a slope of 140. I didn't understand what slope was until I started keeping up with my handicap.

Speaking of slope. Has anyone seen a course with a slope below 113. That is supposed to be the average, but I don't think I've ever played a course below 120. I typically play around 6,500 yards. So, maybe I am just not paying attention to the shorter tees.

Your handicap is usually 2-3 shots better than your average bc handicap is about your potential. Only the best 8 differentials of the last 20 rounds.
So my cap at my course and tee is 10 which means 82 meets my cap. I average 85. It is what it is.
I played with a guy at a member guest who asked me what do you usually shoot. I said around 85. He said, “but your a 10, I always beat my handicap.” I just laughed.

You literally cannot calculate your handicap without a courses slope & rating.

Correct. To find your course handicap it's
Index * Slope/113 + (Par - Rating)
Here, slope is compared to give you extra strokes if it is greater than 113. Also, if the rating is more difficult than the par, you also get more strokes and vice versa.
To find your differential for the round it's
(Strokes - Rating) * 113/Slope
Here, the opposite is happening. The higher the rating and slope, the more your differential will come down.

LGA membership is like $30 a year and it has a handicap calculator and it counts towards any LGA tournament you want to play in. Has all the courses tee boxes and slopes in there.
