Fret has talked me off the ledge with buying an ES copy and swapping this PUPs. And his custom pickups would possibly get me divorced.

So let’s leave everything but Frets advice out of this thread.

I have a MIM stratocaster. It’s a 2009 with stock pickups. Just want to upgrade the pickups.

Right now I’m thinking Fender Noiseless or Fender 57/62. There is a set or two of Custom Shop 69s that keep popping in my price range. But the reviews on the 69 are mixed.

Price range is 200 bucks. Give or take 50 dollars. Used and new are on the table if new is typical honest reverb rated good shape.

ETA. Forgot to mention SSS setup only.

This is a good company and what they sell is NOS still in the original Packaging from Fender. Super fast shipping.

Damn it.

You did. I got side tracked trying to find Stratosphere before recalling they only have an ebay store now.

Thanks I will check it out.

Pickups are a personal preference. It's like asking what should I eat for supper. Unfortunately other than trying out pickups on your own, Youtube is your best bet for getting an educational guess on what you might like. Good luck.

Go to a Guitar Center near you and play a lot of Strats. There are four GCs in the Houston metro area so you have zero valid excuses to not do this.

When you find the "it" guitar tonally, find out which Fender pickups are in it and source them or their closest OTC variety.

That’s gonna be Fender Noiseless. Think they were gen 4? Or I’ll need to research. Fullers guitar had a heavy relic Strat I’ll need to check out again. It was a model that was either a player signature model or a specific year “reissue”. It was amazing. I do not care for relics as far as the body. But they gave the neck that feel of 1000’s of hours. It felt like an old wooden bannister in a school.

Hard sometimes to separate feel from sound. For me. If it feels flawless it sounds better.

I have not seen anyone really bad mouth Fender Noiseless? There is nothing “wrong” with them from a technical standpoint? If I like their sound, then I can’t go wrong.

I bought a 60's Classic Vibe last year from Pro Star Audio and Fender ran a really good Thanksgiving / Christmas sale (30%? 40%?) on necks, pick-ups and other stuff. I snagged a vintage neck and the 57/62's (as well as the correct Fender pots) and had less than $700 in the whole thing.

The point being wait and see if Fender runs the same sale this year.

All the GC's will be loaded with Squier and Epiphone. Very few Fenders and pretty much all American Standard Strats. He'll. the one they just opened by the Woodlands had 0 Gibsons the 2 times I've been there.

Think he already mentioned he went, but Fuller is the place I've seen the most guitars on hand to try. Never bought there personally, but tons of guitars to try out.
