Former President Donald Trump's campaign team projects he could formally clinch the Republican presidential nomination by March 19, given his lead in polls in the early voting states, a senior campaign official said on Monday.

The team believes Trump is on track to win 1,478 delegates by then, based on a mix of public and internal polls, said the official, who requested anonymity to discuss the campaign.

That would be more than enough delegates needed to win a majority of the total of 2,429 delegates who will select a nominee at the Republican National Convention, set for July in Milwaukee.

Neither the DeSantis nor Haley campaigns immediately responded to a request for comment, though both have said they are in the race for the long haul and have a good shot at beating Trump as the field consolidates.

quote:

The Trump campaign official said the projection was an estimate, particularly since there has been no reliable polling yet in some of the states and territories in play.

The official added that, in a bullish scenario, the Trump campaign believes it could mathematically wrap up the nomination as early as March 12, when Republican voters in Washington state, Georgia and a slew of other states will go to the polls.

It’s so weird that we have a nominee that most republican voters support but the party refuses to get behind him . He is going to win no matter how much the minorities of republicans cry.

The corrupt anti-democratic DOJ is working overtime to derail the train and prevent the people from making the choice that they want.

Early this year my wife & I hoped that Ron Desantis would not run in this election cycle. we think he is a great Governor. I even talked to him at the players championship in pontre vedra in march. Wait till 2028!. The anger at which the Obama deep state has gone after Trump, his family, & conservatives is deep seeded. I will crawl through broken glass & lava to vote for TRUMP!

So just in time for his trials to start? Awesome. Don't worry though, his brilliant attorney that went to a Part Time Law School is going to get him acquitted on all charges. I mean she's pretty hawt and that's what counts, right?

Just don't say you weren't warned. You have a chance to support someone that can actually get things done and will win. Or you can ride the 80 year old off the cliff.

BTW, when Dem pollsters are actually giving Trump the biggest leads then maybe you should wake the hell up on how you are begin manipulated a year before the election. Not that what any of us say or do on this board actually matters.

I have been clear that Trump is likely to win so I'm not sure of your point. I just think the polls are a joke and exaggerate the support and I also think DeSantis is a far better choice.

Hey but it's going to be a lot of fun when Trump is convicted of a few felonies (as wrong as the charges are) and the media goes double barreled on him and then they replace out Biden with a young proxy candidate so they can just run against Trump.

The test run was '22 when they pushed all of the Trump candidates in the primaries to help them get nominated and then they got slaughtered in the General. It's all too easy.

They still think the Red Wave happened.

We had folks like GumboPot finally realizing that MAGA was dead in the water with their failed candidates. Democrats made sure no one left the MAGA plantation by indicting Trump.

Ronna is 100% behind him. The GOPe is behind him. They want that sweet Trump - Haley ticket. Haley’s campaign is taking the monetary burden of attacking DeSantis off of Trump’s campaign. It’s incredible to watch while y’all keep your heads buried in the sand.

Correct but unfortunately many of the Ron supporters will retreat and pout when it comes time to vote

Pre-emptively blaming Ron supporters.
Trump doesn’t need any help losing, he does it all by himself.

Well, I'll defer to a Trump OnlyFan about Republican retardation given your experience, but it'll be a small percentage of DeSantis supporters that won't vote Trump in the general.

So how is the party not getting behind Trump?

Yet it's perfectly consistent when one accepts that neither major political party's agendas are in line with their voters.

Republicans won the Congressional vote nationally by 6%, which has been enough for "waves" in the past. Unfrotunately, "creative" redistricting in a number of states led to Republicans losing to incumbents by <1/2%. I think there were around 12-14 districts in that number.
