Pelicans Rotations

I know we’ve been playing relatively well lately and it’s just one game, but I just have so many questions about the lineups we put out there. In the second quarter, we had a chance to create some separation and we go with a lineup of Jose, Dyson, Herb, JV, BI. They were blitzing BI and we had zero other options to go to out of the double team because nobody else out there can create their own offense. We scored 15 points (!!) that quarter. How the frick is that even possible? At some point our coaching staff has to move into the era of modern basketball and prioritize offense first. When you deal with teams like the Clips that put up 140 points and are loaded with HOFers, you have to understand that we’re not stopping them and our only option is to shoot with them. But we don’t play our shooters!! Hawk and Trey sit on the bench while we continue to go with guys that are non-factors on offense like Naji, Herb (on certain nights), and Dyson. Herb and Dyson in the same lineup should never ever happen. Last night Dyson got more minutes than Hawk, Trey, Jose, Cody, Naji, Larry, Jonas, Herb, and Zion. Dyson is not THAT good on defense or rebounding to get that many minutes, let alone any minutes at all. We can’t sit here and preach 40 3’s a night and have the only motherfrickers that can shoot sit on the end of the bench. Trey is a guy that we are about to have to pay big bucks and we don’t even use him. Even if he is missing shots, those shots are contested, meaning he spaces the floor. There’s no reason for Trey to not be penciled in for 30min a night. He would be a starter for any other team in the league. We need to play him, we need to play hawk, we need to understand that defense-first does not work in this nba.

Don't disagree, but:
1) Trey was on a minutes restriction and shot 1-9 in any case.
2) Jose has really been growing his offensive game. There's a lot more in his bag than there used to be. Since he (and not Dyson) is now very clearly our primary backup PG, I am not opposed to giving him run with that unit. He needs to work on entry passes to JV in the post, etc. Unfortunately, Jose picked a bad game to shoot 1-7. Yesterday morning, we found out he was ill, so I doubt if he was really 100%.
3) JV against Zubac should be a big advantage in the post. JV has owned Zubac in the past. In a lineup like that one, we should be able to have success getting the ball to JV in the post and then clearing out and letting him work. But we had trouble getting him the ball, and then JV has three turnovers. I know that he shot 6-12, but it wasn't a good day for him overall.

Herb and Dyson should only share the court in defensive situations at the end of quarters.
The only way I’d ever consider both of them on the court is if CJ/Trey are also playing with one of BI or Zion.
Any lineup with JV/Herb/Dyson is stupid.

The problem for me isn't the fact that we use the lineup. The issue I have with Willie is sticking to those lineups for way too long. His feel for the game is not good. Scheduled lineups are way too rigid and he doesn't ride his hot hand when they are hot and kills their momentum with those rigid substitutions.

Minutes restriction not withstanding , Trey could help himself and this team tremendously if he attacked rebounds . 3rd year and he still doesn’t rebound at all.
His spacing obviously helps the team but he needs to add to his game , especially if we are going to give him a fat contract . Well will have 3 guys on max level deals that are all far from complete players

The rotations make no sense. I would love to see dyson and hawkins play more together. In theory the fit like a glove. We continuously put BI in terrible situations by giving him these no spacing lineups. Give me a Dyson, Hawk, Trey, BI or Zion, Larry or JV lineup.
I love what naji has given us this season but willie is making him the 1st guy off the bench when he is more of an 8-9th guy. I feel like Griff needs to trade naji to save willie from himself.
Jose has also been good this year but some games are just not for him. Like the clippers game it was obvious in the first couple minutes of Jose playing that the clippers were too big and long for Jose to make a positive impact. Willie has to recognize that and pull jose
