Your line type, brand and weight for redfish

I like braided line and at 10lb weight but wondering if weight is too light for bigger reds and if braid is the best for abrasion sue to oyster reefs and barnacles

30lb power pro is the only answer IMO. You can't put a price on being able to hoss around 20" reds.

But braid isn’t very abrasion resistant.

It’s plenty but the diameter is tiny and I could see it slipping with a leader. I use 30# pp on client rods and 30# 832 suffix on my personal rods.
Smaller diameter braid is going to dig into a spool during a fish fight and I don’t think you can get it tight enough to eliminate the dig.

I absolutely cringe when a client pulls out a rod with mono today. Feels like you’re pulling on a rubber band.

It's got some drawbacks like you mentioned earlier but the good vastly offsets the bad.
I dont think people who've never used it can comprehend how much better it is. When I was a kid, hanging into a 25" redfish was a crapshoot. It was a damn rodeo more often than not and you'd often break them off. With 30# Powerpro, he's fricked every single time. His arse is coming to the damn boat.
I have ZERO concern about inshore fish breaking off anymore. The shite is spectacular.

Strong enough to hoss in a bull red, weak enough to let a big shark break it off.
That said, I hooked into a massive stingray a few months ago on vacation from a pier with just 17# mono (Trilene), fought it for at least 30 minutes, once I realized it was a stingray, I was trying like hell to break it off, no drag, pumping and hossing hoping it would pop, definitely more than 17# of pressure I was putting on it. I eventually just cut it.
I think 17+# mono is sufficient for most inshore saltwater fishing but the 30 braid is definitely the gold standard.
ETA- on that same trip I went out with a friend who is a guide, he's 30# braid on his stuff. I had a decent redfish almost to the boat when a shark swallowed it whole and took off. The capn got mad that I was getting spooled, I tightened the drag down a bunch to the point I wasn't gonna be able to hold onto the rod without going in the water, he helped me wrestle it into a rod holder and started trying to crank on it. Eventually it popped off, and upon inspection after reeling in the slack line, it was a knot failure, the 30# didn't actually break. In that sense 30# might be too much.

25+ years ago I was fishing the east bank of big lake south of commissary pt for reds. Big game 25# was my line because it was almost impossible to break. I missed the water and got hung up on the bank and couldn’t break it off. Tightened the drag down, reeled tight and turned the boat west. When it came loose it sounded like a 22 and then I heard my now wife squalling she had been shot. 1/4 jig head hit her in the hip and knocked her off her feet.

It wasn’t until I found pp slick 8 that I could say it was the best fishing line ever invented. I can cover way more water than any mono line chunker with braid. I’ll show ya next time we slow roll dines.

I'm not a fan of braid. Tried it, didnt like it.
