Any of you fellas hunt that area of Illinois? I have the opportunity to go to that area this coming early to mid November. Whats the terrain like? Is it open timber, thick or farm land? Any idea on when rut is in this general area?

Any info is appreciated! Thanks

Most of your questions can be answered by looking at a topo map.

I’ve always hunted Louisiana and felt the same way. When I started hunting Missouri, I learned how to read one real fast. It’s a lot easier to learn when you’re looking at the terrain and the map at the same time. If you can’t read one up there, you’ll struggle trying to get to and from spots without wearing yourself out and blowing deer out the area.
I’ve never hunted Illinois, but my buddy goes every year and from what he’s said the rut is just after Missouri's. Usually around the 3rd week of November.

I’ve been hunting the area for almost 20 years. If you’re referring to Shawnee, it can vary. Mostly rolling hills though.

Lines close together means it’s steep.

Also, go on google earth and find the area you’re interested in. Go from 2D to 3D. You’ll see the relief.
