compared to Brady. Everything from his court side manner to his post game comments is far above anything Brady ever gave us...at least that I can recall. I dont know, maybe Brady was different in his practices, but Trent seems to be much more into the games than Brady was...no more hanging head looking into the floor. I think this was a GREAT hire, not just a descent or pretty good one, but a GREAT hire for LSU.

True. He seems very involved with his players on the court along with the assistant coaches who are on the same page as him...

i noticed that at the scrimmage this year. TJ seems to actually have a clue about what is going on and be in control.

my son went to an LSU game this year and said that he didn't realize how much of a team sport basketball was. He said the difference was night and day.

Brady was guilty of basketball abuse.

I'm not a fan of Brady, but let's hold off judgments until we get through SEC play. Brady beat Nicholls too.

I understand it was just Nicholls, but any observer can see that this team is much better fundamentally than Brady's teams in the past have been. I'm not saying Johnson will be the next John Wooden, but if he can get a couple of nice recruiting classes he should be able to make LSU into a consistent tournament team.

I def. like Johnson's style. He brings that "ORGANIZED" style of play from the pac 10 instead of sloppy Brady ball which we were used to seeing.

Just noticing the spacing on the floor indicates Johnson is doing a better job than Brady. Last year was torture to watch players standing still or playing within 12 inches of each other.

They play much harder on defense. IMO.

Also, he seems to coach his players and not worry about about what the refs are doing. Has he even received a technical yet?

he is a disciplinarian that seems to have these kids attention. Miles should take some pointers.

It's way too early to be throwing around the words "great hire", but on the surface it seems Johnson really understands the game of basketball (Xs and Os) as well as having the proper mix of discipline and motivation for the players.

That's something I've never seen in an LSU basketball coach. Brown lacked the Xs and Os and Brady lacked handling of the players.

I'm hopeful we got it right. My biggest question mark is recruiting. We'll see how that goes.

What Memphis is saying, is tyhat the B-ball team has much better chemistry, and a much less tenseness about them than when John Brady was there. Sure they have played against inferior opponents and they are not going to win every game, but Coach Johnson is light years different from Coach Brady. While I see a scowl of displeasure on CTJ's face at times, he doesn't make it personal like CJB did when he got mad and sulked.

I think Brady's down fall was that he could never picture himself as the LSU Head Coach. It was his dream job and he got it so early that he was never comfortable.
Johnson does seem comfortable in his role and projects a positive image for LSU.
Don't get too smug until we win a few games vs teams of equal talent.

Brady's courtside manner would have been more respectable if it weren't for those darned draconian sanctions.

I dont know, maybe Brady was different in his practices,

If you call screaming and cussing during practice different, then yes. But he was probably calling Ronald Dupree those names because of the draconian sanctions. And he was dog cussing the media in post-practice interviews because of the draconian sanctions. "F-you, f-you, etc..." like he was in the movie Half Baked or something.

I think that we should bring this thread back when we graduate from the weakest schedule in NCAA sports to the slightly tougher SEC and see if the rantards are still on his side.

What are talking about, Brady was a great coach. He had to deal with decade long Draconian Sanctions, got 2 SEC Championships, a Final Four and Sweet 16 in 11 years! /endsarcasm

And what the Brady apologists won't tell you is all the very disappointing seasons we had under him, including his last 2 years. But yes, he was a great coach - that's why he landed a job at Arkansas State after getting fired from here.

It's clear to anyone, schedule or not, Trent is a better coach for us. The players believe in him and he believes in them. He doesn't give stupid looks during the game and encourages the team a lot.

Ageed....I like Trent, but he's inherited a veteran team with decent talent, and we've played absolutely no one yet this year....He's got to be able to bring in some better talent than what we have now, which I think he will, otherwise it won't make much difference how well he can coach.
