Budget friendly competition style pistol options

I'm starting to get the itch for a gun that I can shoot flat and fast. I've thrown around the idea of eventually getting something like a Staccato XC, but a $4300 price tag makes me always back down. Even compromising a bit and dropping the compensator and going with the XL costs $3600. Not done a ton of research into these types of guns as my handguns are self defense/carry options so far. What options should I be looking at? Every time I see something that piques my interest, it ends up just raising the price tag
. Like the idea of a 2011, but do want to take a look at something like the TTI Canik or other striker fired options more geared towards light and fast trigger pulls.

What exactly is your budget?
CZ Shadow 2 is a great beginner competition ready gun, and can be modded as you progress.

Most competitions around south La. are USPSA based. You would want a gun that fits in a certain division. Open guns are the high end 2011s that run fast, but you almost have to handload to make power factor or spend a lot on factory major rounds.
Carry optics is by far the most popular division right now. It's basically any off the shelf pistol with a red dot. You can do several mods to the gun to keep in still in the division specs. The most popular guns are Sig 320X5 Legion, Glock MOS, CZ Shadow 2, and now the Caniks are taking over. Carry optics is the most budget friendly way to get into competition.
Then you have the new Limited optics division which is your 2011 slide mounted optics. You can do almost anything that open does except comps and long mags. This is where most people are going to with your staccatos. This is becoming popular because you can shoot minor power factor. Which is most off the shelf ammo.
All the other divisions are dying and not worth getting into. Also keep in mind you are gonna drop another $400 minimum on a good belt, holster, and mag pouches. Most people use DAA stuff. It's pretty solid.
The 2011s are awesome. I have two that are lights out fast shooting guns. But the cost of the mags and constantly tweaking the mags is a real turnoff. I can shoot my X5 legion just as good as my open gun, and it's a quarter of the cost. The new caniks are awesome. There is a few guys at the local matches beating everyone with them.

I built a P320 with Parker Mountain barrel and JTTC comp. Grey guns trigger kit and DPM springs. Sans the red dot and Light I have about $1400 in it.
I bought the slide used on Bayou shooter for $200.
Shoots almost as flat as a Staccato XC. Trigger is 3.5lbs

You didn’t say what your budget is. But check out Clark’s Custom Gun Shop in Princeton, LA. They custom build 3-gun competition ready pistols and the whole family competes. That includes Jerry Miculek and Lena Miculek.

Budget is just options less than ~4k. And as far as uses, it's really just a hobby and fun. No plans to compete necessarily, and if I do it's more likely a tactical games or run and gun type competition.

I bought a kit from Brazo Custom and built a 2011 using all STI (STI is now Staccato) internals.
The gun is stupid fast and very accurate. Building it taught me a ton about 1911s.

If you want to go the 2011 route take a look at Bul Armory. A little cheaper than Stacatto but make really good stuff. They just introduced some new guns.
Tac Pro commander size $2050.

First production models had issues. Those seemed to have been worked out. I would spend the extra $500 and get the Bul. I have shot the Tac II and its worth the extra dough over the prodigy.

Seems like they aren't easy to find.

So, it's very tough for me to hold out for guns that aren't readily available. I research, but when I've made my decision to buy, I want it now. I have a suppressor in lockup waiting for a stamp and it kills me. I stopped by the range next to my house and they have a Staccato P and a Springfield Prodigy available for rent to try out. I usually shoot on Fridays, so I'll do that tomorrow. Handled them both today and honestly, besides the lack of a magwell, I thought the Prodigy felt nicer. Still fighting my urge to spend money, so not planning to buy either of these soon. But it's hard to wait on availability of others when the shop 1/4 mile away has these ready to go.

I would go with Briley's SA 2011. I've shot one of their 2011s; it is nice. I've shot several shotguns and pistols that came out of that shop and they were good to go. I'm not sure how long the wait is for one. I like Haye's Customs RIA 2011 but last I read it was a six-month wait. while you are at it pick up an m2

May have missed where you are but Spillway Sportsman had some MPA pistols. It’s actually where I bought mine.

While I really love 2011s I only had one for plinking around. My main competition pistol was a pair of XDM 5.25 with some race parts. I put around 15k rounds thru the pair. I never felt the pistol was holding me back even when I was a A class shooter
