Thought it was solid. About exactly what you’d expect from the trailer.

Not as good as Pearl. I loved Pearl and think Pearl is one of the best movies to come out in the last few years.

I liked X too but I think this movie is more interesting. Still felt the plot is a bit dull.

I think thematically what the movie is saying about success is a bit of a mess. I don’t know if the movie realizes how unlikable Maxine is sometimes and which version of herself we are supposed to be rooting for

Obviously great acting. Kevin Bacon gets to do stuff he hasn’t been able to do for awhile and that was fun. Elizabeth Debicki kinda steals the show. Giancarlo Esposito finally plays a black guy. He’s pretty much doing a Al Pacino impression almost which was fun.

Definitely worth a watch but you already know what your going to get is my tagline

Is there a fair amount of tits?

Not really.

There’s a flashback to tits in X you’ve seen before. There’s a scene in a strip club/porn studio that have some murky tits. There’s some tits I feel like that show up in B roll of B movies.

There’s also a scene that’s shown twice where they ask a character to show her tits and both times the camera does not show the tits being shown.

Also, this is a weird movie to be thinking about T&A.

There’s also a shot of a severed penis and crushed balls

I saw it Wednesday and really liked it. X is still my favorite of the trilogy, but it was fun.

This was a bit of a let down. Seemed more like a crime drama than a horror. Disappointing because I’ve always thought a more true to life stalker/slasher film could be even scarier than the ones we grew up with. But it has to be done properly. Definitely the weaker of the trilogy.

I liked some of the stuff they were trying to do with 80s LA and the first 3/4th of the movie is pretty good

The ending just felt kind of like a dud, the reveal of who the killer wasn’t much of a payoff and then it felt like they couldn’t decide on how they wanted it to end so they threw in like 3 endings

The last act wasn't as good. I found myself comparing it to the closing act from the Hanks and Aykroyd Dragnet movie.

First act was pretty good. The physical violence weirdly didn't match the ability of the characters either.

Mild spoilers:

Maxine doesn't have the power to pummel a character's face badly and the murderer is originally portrayed as a brutally powerful man and turned out to be pretty unlikely to be strong enough to be threatening.

We thoroughly enjoyed it. All 3 movies were quite different, honestly. I think we enjoyed Pearl the most, though.

I am watching them in order

Pearl
X
Maxxine

I watched Pearl a few days back. Thought it was pretty decent, 2.5 stars out of 4. I'll probably watch X tonight.

Look for hidden words.

X has a scene with "sin" written in blood on the side of a character in bed. On the wall (back of the Hollywood Sign) above a dying character in Maxxxine "love" is (also) written in blood.

Watched X last night and thought it was solid. Guess I'll watch Maxxxine tonight.

Watched it just now. It was by far the weakest of the three, imo. Started off strong but then faded fast. Bacon's character had a lot of promise in his first scene w/ her but then his performance weakened. Very predictable as to who the mystery character was (weak payoff), and the chase through the Universal set was cheesy and the whole Hollywood Hills thing was kinda lame. I enjoyed the first two much more. Disappointing end to the trilogy, at least for me.

watched it tonite finally and I agree with your review. I honestly didn’t realize the red carpet scene at the end was a hallucination and was very confused by the “one month later” scenes. So yes the ending was chaotic and not nearly as good as the first 3/4 which I enjoyed. My only complaint there is that I wasn’t feeling Maxine as scared or powerless…the meek Maxine didn’t fit

also how would the cops in the helicopter know who she was or what her name was? I guess we assume the other two cops had the helo ready as backup but how would they have anticipated what transpired and why would they have told them Maxine was the victim when they didn’t know shite about what was going on?

the whole ending sequence was kinda dumb

Yeah, I didn't really think it was a horror movie... All in all, I liked the trilogy.. Maxxxine started out promising and kinda fizzled at the end though..

I'm in the minority, but I didn't really enjoy any of the three movies. Something about Ti West movies I've never liked.
